Working as a hostess at the Sandbox in Hanalei Bay was an incredible and challenging experience. It was my first time working at a pool for a five-star hotel that's main focus was being eco-friendly within our operations. I oftenly dealt with high-end guests and celebrities which gave me plenty of new experiences with-in hospitality. Regardless if it was a private event like a wedding or birthday it was always our main goal to ensure every guest's experience was unforgettable. Within my role I managed reservations, coordinated server sections, and was the first form of contact for any guest inquiries or concerns. One of the main challenges I faced was managing reservations and walk-ins during peak hours, ensuring that every guest felt welcomed and accommodated despite the busy environment. To manage reservations effectively, I utilized a digital reservation system to keep track of all bookings in real-time, which helped prevent overbooking and allowed for easy adjustments. I also maintained clear communication with guests, confirming their reservations a day in advance and accommodating any special requests they might have. Additionally, I developed a system for managing walk-ins by estimating wait times accurately and offering guests the option to enjoy a drink at the bar while they waited. The outdoor setting added another layer of complexity, with weather conditions sometimes affecting seating arrangements and guest comfort. I learned the importance of quick thinking and adaptability, as well as the value of excellent communication skills to coordinate with the kitchen and waitstaff efficiently. Working as a retail associate for a local Hawaiian brand brought many of the things I love together. Our main focus was making beauty products that were all natural and organic. We made products mainly for the skin and hair that were all focused around local tropical scents and plants that were native to the island of Kauai. This was a very rewarding job as I got to spend a lot of my time learning even more about the island that I grew up on and love dearly. I used to love educating our customers about the rich history of our brand and the interesting facts about how we use the native plants in our products. Sharing these stories about the lush landscapes of Kauai and how each ingredient was carefully sourced was always a pleasure in my day to day. In addition to our beauty products, we also sold lots of different local Hawaiian brands that specialized in jewelry and dresses. Working as a cashier and barista for Health Go Market was an incredibly fulfilling role where I got to serve various coffee drinks and our delicious vegan food. It was a family owned vegan grocery store that opened near my childhood home. This is where I found out how great vegan alternatives can be and found a great interest in making various drinks like espressos, intricate level lattes, all natural smoothies, and acai bowls daily. This is where I learned a lot about the importance of our ingredients and what separates us from your typical grocery store or coffee shop.
