PROFESSIONAL TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Curriculum Update Committee June 2023

Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, Cleveland, OH

*My name appears as “Jenny Gorski” in the credits for this document As part of a team of 8, I realigned the Diocesan Preschool Curriculum to the State of Ohio’s new Early Learning and Development Standards. In this role, I applied my experience in the classroom to add supplemental activities and resources to the curriculum as well as edited materials for consistency and clarity. Pre-K Classroom Teacher August 2020 - Present

St. Barnabas School, Northfield, OH

My class of 4 and 5 year olds covers a “gap year” between preschool and kindergarten for students who are not quite ready for kindergarten but need more structure than a traditional preschool. I teach all core subjects in a full-day program that follows a regular school calendar. Unlike the other grade levels, Pre-K students do not follow a purchased curriculum. I inherited a basic learning structure when I took on this position but have edited and elaborated upon the previous curriculum heavily to make it my own using influences from Wilson Language Systems, Harry Wong’s classroom management strategies, and early childhood experiences with learning through play. This job is a bit like being a magician. I take four year olds who often do not know the alphabet or how to hold a pencil and turn them into readers, writers, and critical thinkers who are ready for kindergarten and beyond. Long Term Substitute, grades 3 and K August 2019 - May 2020 St. Barnabas School, Northfield, OH

I spent a year as a contracted teacher covering a third grade maternity leave and then subsequently a kindergarten maternity leave. In both positions, I was responsible for all lesson-planning, record-keeping, communications with families, and attending staff meetings and professional development. In the weeks between the two positions I served as a building substitute, covering classes from pre-k all the way up to eight grade. During the kindergarten long-term substitute position, I created an online classroom entirely from scratch due to the Covid lockdown of March 2020. I was responsible for converting the entire kindergarten curriculum to digital and teaching both synchronous and asynchronous virtual lessons to 5 and 6 year olds. I also started “Writing Club,” which was a virtual tutoring group for students struggling with handwriting. I recorded handwriting lessons and worked one on one with students virtually, using a variety of teaching strategies.

5th Grade Classroom Teacher March 2018 - May 2018

Al Ihsan School, Parma, OH

*My name appears as Jenny Gorski in this employment record I took over for the fifth grade teacher when she resigned mid-year due to health issues. After implementing strict classroom routines and procedures with an emphasis on positive behavior intervention and support, I was able to easily manage this notoriously difficult class. I was responsible for every aspect of typical classroom management, record-keeping, lesson planning, and parent-teacher communications. I also coached the students on organization, note-taking, and other executive functioning skills that they would need for success in their transition to middle school. I taught all core subjects and supervised recess and lunch as well as other duties as needed. 4th Grade Classroom Teacher August 2013 - August 2015 Al Ihsan School, Cleveland, OH

I experienced immense professional growth in the two years I spent as the fourth grade lead teacher. My responsibilities included designing authentic learning experiences through project–based learning and inquiry, keeping accurate records, and regularly communicating with families and administration. I contributed to and participated in ongoing professional development, including working with colleagues in a Professional Learning Community, respected the unique religious aspects of school Board policies and followed administrative guidelines/procedures, and presented a professional image of the school. I demonstrated cultural sensitivity to Muslim students’ beliefs by incorporating them into learning opportunities, and effectively instructed Arabic-speaking ELL students. The collaborative environment of both the school and the classroom fueled teaching creativity. RELATED EXPERIENCE

Private tutor, Kindergarten February 2018-February 2019 Hudson, Ohio

I implemented diagnostic and prescriptive instruction using a multisensory structured literacy program based on the Orton-Gillingham approach.

Private tutor, 4th grade October 2016-May 2019

Hudson, Ohio

I developed phonics-based micro-lessons to target deficiencies in reading and writing due to the student’s dyslexia and ADHD, I made recommendations to the RTI team as they developed his IEP, and applied knowledge acquired in my graduate-level reading instruction courses to fill in the gaps in this student’s foundational reading skills. In 2 years, my student went from reading and writing at a 2nd grade level to being caught up to his 6th grade peers and no longer needing tutoring.
