Career Objective
To build expertise as a Head of Human Resources where I can be an effective and strategic business partner.
Personal Profile
I am a highly motivated individual who performs best when working with others. My twenty-five (25) years of experience in Human Resources has provided me with an understanding of the different functions of HR, i.e., resourcing, learning, talent management, organizational development, performance management, rewards, employee engagement, labor and employee relations. My long HR experience provides me comfort and equips me in the performance of my role as Head of HR. My legal background as a lawyer has been key in the performance of my role around employee/labor relations.
Below are the key attributes I have managed to develop:
Change Agent – Drive interventions and create initiatives to improve organization, systems and processes to align to the fast moving phase of organizational transformation. Using initiatives such as outsourcing, reengineering, streamlining and boundary change to better address requirements of the business.
Business Partner – Manage both internal and external stakeholders with the goal of helping the business meet its financial targets and able to scan the horizon for sustainability opportunities of the organization. This also means being able to make sound decisions on how to build the resilience needed to safeguard the business’ future.
Leader – Leads by example and Values driven. Passionate in work and inspires people. Self-motivated and highly engaged.
Career Highlights:
I took a career move in joining the hospitality industry and my almost 3 years in experience in hospitality gave me the ability to navigate in a different setting and culture. It enhanced my HR skills in recruitment, training and employee engagement.
In my banking career, I had been fortunate to have been identified as a Talent of a multinational bank. I had a defined career map throughout my journey with the Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) and brought me to where I work best.
I started in HSBC as a specialist in Employee Communications and Labor Relations and moved up towards being a Generalist/Business Partner. I handled strategic projects relating to outsourcing, streamlining, boundary and organizational/structural changes across business and functions.
Part of my career development was being assigned as leave cover for the Heads of HR roles in Sydney, Australia on September 2016 and in Korea on May 2014. Further, I have been chosen to participate in various training programs in HongKong and the most recent one in 2017 in Ashridge Business School in London. My latest assignment as Head of HR in two countries, i.e., Sri Lanka and Maldives provided me the international exposure in managing HR, the skills of navigating in a different territory and delivering on the targets of the People and Culture agenda.
The Bank also supported my development in Learning where it sponsored two of my Diploma Courses, i.e., Organizational Development and Strategic Human Resources & Management.
Also, I take pride in the various projects and initiatives I have handled and managed:
1.Resolution of labour relations activities in Manila where Labour Union President was exited due to a policy breach in 2012. The decision was both sensitive and critical however it was the right thing to do and it actually paved the way for a more harmonious relationship with Labour Union officers/staff;
2.Implemented the Operational Excellence (OE) Project in Manila on 2013, where around 150 officers/employees were exited; no labour case was filed with zero noise in the market;
3.Introduced feedback sessions, conducted roadshows and other communication channels in Manila from 2013 where staff slowly are introduced to the culture of “speaking up”;
4.Created multiple Engagement activities in Manila from 2013-2017 to drive business productivity. Examples of these are: all year round sports activities, breakfast chats, internal Career Expo; HSBC Singing contests; Friday “trivia nights”; Fun Runs etc.;
5.Concluded the Collective Bargaining Agreement Negotiations with the Labour Union in Sri Lanka (2018/2019) where active engagement with the government and regulator was key;
6.Designed the Career Development Framework for Sri Lanka and Maldives;
7.Satisfactory Grade in the Audit exercise in Sri Lanka (2019);
8.Rolled out People Initiatives such as Breakfast Chats, Triple T (Talk to Tess),
LEAD Talks (similar to TED Talks), Feedback and Exchange Sessions in Sri Lanka and Maldives;
9.Created a robust Talent Management/Succession Planning in Sri Lanka and Maldives;
