Research Assistant
January 2023 – December 2025
My Ph.D. research focuses on developing daily, high-resolution (100 m) multilayer soil moisture maps across the Continental U.S. by integrating satellite data, soil surveys, and in situ observations. I utilize a ConvLSTM-based deep learning framework to model complex, non-linear relationships between environmental covariates and soil moisture across the 0–100 cm profile. This approach enhances the accuracy of soil moisture nowcasting and forecasting, benefiting applications in precision agriculture, hydrology, and climate resilience.
Research Assistant
September 2017 – January 2020
During my Master’s in Civil Engineering, I developed a machine learning framework using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data for real-time soil moisture estimation. The project combined GIS analysis, satellite image processing, and in-situ data modelling. It enhanced my skills in geospatial analysis and AI-driven environmental applications. Senior Researcher
May 2019 – November 2019
As a senior researcher, I worked on a project at preserving Lake Urmia, a highly saline lake in western Iran, by analysing satellite imagery to monitor its area fluctuations. I automated the download of relevant Landsat 8 tiles and used GIS techniques to detect the lake’s surface extent. The project involved assessing the lake’s water volume in relation to nearby swamps to support environmental management efforts. H&H Modelling
Feb 2018 – January 2019
Experienced in hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modelling using HEC-HMS for watershed analysis and HEC-RAS (1D/2D) for river and floodplain modelling. Skilled in integrating models with GIS and Arc Hydro for terrain processing, watershed delineation, and result visualization. Proficient in using Python to automate workflows, process spatial and time- series data, and support model calibration and analysis. Capable of conducting flood risk assessments, stormwater management studies, and preparing clear technical documentation to support planning, design, and regulatory compliance. Bachelor Projects
January 2017 – September 2017
During my undergraduate studies, I completed two major projects in Reinforced Concrete Structures and Highway Engineering. In the structural project, I used ETABS to design and analyse a multi-story concrete building, focusing on load distribution and seismic resistance. For the highway project, I applied AutoCAD Civil 3D to design road alignments, profiles, and cross-sections.
