HIGHLIGHTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Managed the parts lists and the tracking of the progress of ten designers, to ensure that the required milestone was reached on time. During the most critical period, I was able to achieve a reduction of 25 in the number of remaining unreleased drawings, during a period of four days.

Determined why customers were returning products and recommended improvements to reduce the return rates.

Worked on development of new products, including gear train, grease gun and ammunition feed.

Tested products to determine if they met customer or regulatory requirements.

Designed and built test equipment to evaluate and compare proposed product designs, and to select optimal designs to manufacture and sell.

Developed thermal models to evaluate proposed designs for electronics and determined whether they would be likely to overheat.

Selected materials to reduce cost or improve thermal performance.

Defense/aerospace

Electronics

Automotive

Power tools

Medical

EXPERIENCE AND RECENT TRAINING

Engineer, Aerocon Engineering Van Nuys, CA 10/11-Present

Designed aircraft modifications. Primary tool was CATIA V5, but also used Excel, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc. Projects included radar cooling system (air and liquid), powered retractable stairs (electric or pneumatic), and crew rest compartments. Involved in selection of purchased components, including valves, pressure regulator, hoses, fittings, filters, oxygen container (generator and mask) assembly, etc. Developed layouts and detail part, assembly, and installation 3D models and drawings. Wrote necessary documentation, such as maintenance manuals, IPC (illustrated parts catalog), installation instructions, operating instructions, etc. Reviewed (checked) drawings of designers or other engineers.

Consultant and Student Southern California, 6/09-10/11

Woodward HRT Santa Clarita, CA 12/10-10/11

Managed the parts list and tracked the progress of ten designers, to ensure that a required project milestone was reached on time. In the most critical period, I was able to achieve a reduction of 25 in the number of parts without drawings, in a period of four days.

Also designed and led the construction of a test fixture for evaluating prototypes.

SolidWorks Training, Technology Development Center Ventura, CA, 2/10-4/10

10 week, 350 hour series of courses, including drawings/detailing, advanced part designs, advanced assembly modeling, sheet metal, surfacing, mold design, weldments, etc.

Ecotech Design Studio Malibu, CA, 6/09-9/09

Designed green energy systems and products.

Lab Engineer, Central Purchasing, LLC (Harbor Freight Tools) Oxnard, CA, 11/07-1/09

Researched reasons for customer returns. Examined returned units to determine causes of failures, wrote questions for customer surveys, analyzed data, etc. Proposed improvements. Monitored implementation of improvements. Also tested and developed new products.

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Power-One Camarillo, CA, 2/06-5/07

Designed mechanical components for power supplies, created thermal models and models of air flow, investigated manufacturing, quality and supplier issues. Conducted tests and measurements to provide data for customers. Used Solid Edge and FLOTHERM software.

Pro/ENGINEER Contractor/Consultant Various locations, 8/01-2/06

Positions accepted on short-term or temporary basis, typically assisting with single projects, including:

Volvo Trucks North America. Designed braking systems for heavy trucks. 12/05—2/06.

General Dynamics Land Systems. Designed door actuator. Created and modified three dimensional models. Researched materials and designs for seals. 8/05 – 10/05.

Meritool, LLC. Worked on research, development, design, and certification of cordless power tools. Designed and built test equipment. Prepared technical construction file for compliance assessment. Ellicottville, NY. 5/04 – 7/05. (Hired as direct employee after six months as a contractor/consultant).

BAE Systems. Created and updated models and drawings of aerospace and optical products using Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/INTRALINK. 7/03 – 4/04. (Original three-month contract extended to ten months.)

Goodrich Corporation. Created detail and assembly drawings on Pro/ENGINEER for new products. Checked documentation for errors and consistency. Recreated drawings for existing products, working from prints generated with other CAD systems, and from hand drawings. Cedar Knolls, NJ. 9/02 – 5/03. (Contract extended from three to eight months.)

Electro-Tec Corporation. Designed new product. Sourced components. Wrote specifications. Created Pro/ENGINEER models and drawings. Checked customer’s drawings. Trained other users. Blacksburg, VA. 2002.

Renal Solutions, Inc. Designed systems for dialysis equipment. Using Pro/ENGINEER, modeled parts and assemblies and created detail drawings. Tracked BOM changes and managed documentation history. Rochester, NY. 2001.

Design Engineer, Syntec Technologies Pavilion, NY, 1/00-3/01

Utilized Pro/ENGINEER CAD system to modify customer designs for manufacturing (DFM). Utilized the software TK Solver from UTS to evaluate gear designs and ensure proper mesh (fit). Selected materials, based on thermal, electrical, optical, and flammability requirements.

Product Designer, Seitz Corporation Torrington, CT, 9/97-1/00

Utilized Pro/ENGINEER to develop the drive train for a proprietary HVAC product and to modify the safety interlock and power transmission systems of a customer’s food service equipment. Designed and analyzed spur, helical, planetary, and worm gears using TK Solver. Calculated allowable torque, minimum allowable tooth thickness, and other properties.
