Dal-Tile - Plant Controller

For two years I handled the day-to-day accounting of the Dallas and El Paso plants. For three years after, I was responsible on site for the El Paso plant and its second plant expansion.

Regular duties included all I had learned at Campbell’s, and in addition, the monthly accounting closing, account analysis, ad hoc reporting, audit coordinating, budget, forecasting, budget forecasting, cost management, cost reduction, processes documenting,, Financial Analysis, Financial Statements, project development, reconciliations, driving excellence, research skills, resolutions to conflict, and strategic planning.

I then moved back to the corporate office to work in Marketing Finance and Corporate Manufacturing Finance.

During this time, I completed the overhaul of pricing for all Wall Tile produced. Was able to minimize the pricing structures, grouping process by difficulty and cost to produce. Also, gained experience in Market Analysis, critical planning, account management, management reporting, Business process review and development of SOX documentation and testing, and GAAP compliance.

Spent the last 17 years back in El Paso as the Controller with two accountants reporting to me.

Some highlights of my 27 years with Dal-Tile:

• Take part in the due diligence for the acquisition of a talc mine from American Talc

• Lead on the conversion of Talc operation from QuickBooks to SAP in 2018.

• One of 3 leads on implantation of SAP into all US plants in 2016.

• Gatekeeper for Dal-Tile original Access database Standard Cost System. Wrote all the User and Management documents.

• Developed a “charter system”. Collaborating with operations to deliver cost savings and process improvement.

• Set up internal controls to track plant performance.

• Streamlined closing process to reduce time required to close books.

Trained and mentored junior staff members on various aspects of accounting principles, software applications, and best practices in order to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
