Exceptional Family Member Program Specialist – Family Support

Establishes, implements, and maintains the family support portion of EFMP-FS. Coordinates with EFMP Assignments, EFMP Medical and Tri-Care Case Workers to support families registered in the Exceptional Family Member Program. Assists over 1800 families with special needs in navigating the system by explaining local resources and processes; coordinates with on and off base providers and maintains a current list of those in the area who work with children with special needs and accept TRICARE. Conducts Family Needs Assessments to identify the needs of the family. Assists families in the PCS process connecting them with support at their gaining installation as well as ensure needs/requirements are being met prior to their move. Provides program information and increases awareness of local services at weekly newcomers’ briefings, various information fairs, key spouse meetings, etc. Supports families from all military service branches by offering workshops on requested topics and holding monthly Lunch Bunch Support Groups; recruits guest speakers to provide information on a variety of subject areas. Provides local resources and referrals to families with special needs

Creates and distributes monthly newsletter to all EFMP families; develops marketing materials, website content, and writes articles for newspapers and other newsletters. Active member of the Inclusion Action Team (IAT), Wing Integrated Delivery System (IDS), Air Mobility Command Community Action Board (AMC CAB) and Air Mobility Command Community Action Team (AMC CAT). Chairs the EFMP Installation Committee and EFMP Advisory Task Force. Coordinates, plans and implements programs and activities encouraging family participation within the community; including Open House with Santa and EFMP Family Bowl by creating a sensory friendly atmosphere, ensuring children with special needs have the same opportunities as their typically developing peers. Strives to increase awareness of special needs programs by encouraging the base population to participate in annual awareness events; planning a local Autism Awareness Walk; received Air Staff attention for prompting AMC communities to participate in the international “Light It Up Blue” Autism Awareness Campaign by using blue lights in homes and key community areas. Brief EFMP at AMC Squadron Commanders’ Spouses Course. Serves as Trusted Agent for Force Support Squadron working with Security Manager to ensure volunteers and contractors meet requirements to support the mission. Establishes, implements and coaches Team Scott AFB Special Olympics Team. Supervises volunteers at special events and student interns in completion of college course requirements.
