Avail Enclosures - Quality Assurance Manager 2022 TO 2024

Led quality assurance and control efforts for AVAIL enclosures formerly AZZ Enclosures. Successfully led 700K project whereby AVAIL built 122 enclosures for a key customer. This was the largest order in the history of both AZZ and AVAIL enclosures. I was the Management Representative and lead auditor for the ISO 9001 quality system,

Dura-line – Quality Assurance Manager / Engineer 2018 TO 2021

My primary responsibility was to improve the quality of the product. I was instrumental in reducing the McAlester, OK complaints from 28 in 2018 to only 6 complaints in 2019. Obtained my Six Sigma Black Belt certificate during this time frame and was leading the Black Belt project to reduce the plant’s more significant quality issues.

Phillips Medi size – Quality Manager 2015 TO 2018

I served as the Management representative for the TS/IATF 16949 Quality system. The Medford, WI location was a decorative plastic manufacturer for the automotive industry. By focusing on performance metrics as a team, I have led Kaizen events that reduced scrap by over 50% for a high-volume key FOB part. Plant was able to reduce total scrap and rework by at least 25% after implementing LVDT thermo-couples to monitor which in turn helped control mold steel temperatures on three high volume injection mold machines.

QUALITY LANDSCAPING & PATIOS – President 2012 TO 2015

Bought existing landscaping company and managed all efforts such as P&L, Sales, and customer service Providing technical support to landscaping technicians as needed. Led company to a record 1.6M in net sales in 2013. Hired a promising landscape technician to run the crew while I got back into quality management. Performed short contract work for NCS Manufacturing in Shawnee, KS and AVM Industries in Marion SC during this period.

RADIAN RESEARCH – Quality & Service Manager 2008 TO 2012 Improved the Service department repair TAT (turn-around-time) from average of 15 days to 4 days by utilizing Lean techniques and focusing on performance metrics in the Service laboratory. Radian was a key player in both the design and development and manufacture of Energy Reference standards. During my tenure at Radian, I provided justification for a visual measurement system which was ultimately purchased then programmed for all Printed Circuit Boards manufactured at Radian,

REGAL BELOIT – Quality Manager 2005 TO 2008 Served as the ISO Management representative for the Regal Beloit, West Plains, MO location and led successful green belt project that identified the variance with a particular model of electric motor. As a result of this project, Regal Beloit was able to improve the torque performance of the motor enough to improve the 1st pass yield by 15% from levels before the project.

KIDDE SAFETY – Divisional Quality Manager 2000 T0 2005 Spearheaded a Warranty Returns analysis / Product Development improvement project for a $300M division which ultimately led the justification for hiring a sustaining engineer who produced a first-year cost savings of $350K within the Detection Products division. I coordinated, managed and supported all functions that related to the Detection Products division. Detection products included both smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Kidde utilized multiple manufacturing locations including our Research and Development Center in Colorado Springs, CO to design and manufacture detection products. Served as a focal point in the R&D Group to identify both weaknesses and strengths in new or modified designs. I developed quality plans that tested areas of concern in new products. I worked with the Engineering departments to develop Design FMEA(s) to identify those areas of concern. This formal design review process improved the initial pilot run success at our manufacturing sites by 50%.

CINCH CONNECTORS – Quality Engineer 1997 TO 2000 I served as the process Quality Engineer for the Aerospace department until I was promoted to Quality Assurance Manager. Led plant to successful AS9100 implementation / certification in 1999. Improved our Cost of Quality system which not only used the typical categories of Prevention, Appraisal and Rework; it also included such factors as labor productivity, loss of customer satisfaction which were estimated via a calculation provided in ASQ magazine. As a result of focus on this report and AS9100 process control techniques the company was able to reduce customer returns by 25.

ROCKWELL AUTOMATION-TOOLING & QUALITY ENGINEER 1991 TO 1997 Started my career as a Tooling Design Engineer then after two years I was promoted to Quality Engineer. Implemented automated SPC data collection work-centers for CTQ (Critical to Quality) areas specifically Allen Bradley automated SPC data collection and measurement systems at key machining centers then provided training of general SPC concepts as well as specific Allen Bradley equipment usage techniques. This real tine SPC systems reduces scrap by 15% and rework was reduced by 50%. Grand total of scrap and rework cost reductions were 100K annually.
