Professional Accomplishments: Development in Non profit Brief Past
Over the past 10 years after my wife passed, I left the media industry. I built my skill set on fundraising. Something I had done significantly for a number of nonprofits during my publishing career. During that time i was on many non profit boards and I was tasked to manage the development programs.
My development work began in Boston working for a nonprofit in the city, raising several millions of dollars for their non profit media business. I then moved on raising funds for several corporations from investment funders and individuals. I raised between six and $10 million. Since 1990 I was CEO of Courier Publications in Rockland, Maine. We built a group of newspapers covering Bar Harbor to York. We aggressively addressed community issues through evenhanded, yet well focused, efforts resukting in a Pulitzer nomination and sweeping the Maine Press Association General Excellence awards. We were credited with a number of legislative changes and consumer issues.
The past ten years has been focusing on working with domestic and international NGOs creating programs, redesigning operating structures, creating revenue streams and overall management issues. Major focus of work is on creating sustainable programs by defining achievable goals based on effective planning and supervised execution. The past ten years of working exclusively with non profits in raising funds, creating initiatives for clients has been in Southeast Asia, USA and Africa. I have spent considerable time in discussions w media organizations regarding how to adapt to the new technology.
