Overview
A virtual fair is a sophisticated job fair simulation that enables real-time interaction between candidates and recruiters. You have the ease of accessing the fair right from the comfort of your own home or while you are on the go; you can log into the fair from your phone, tablet or computer. It’s Mobile friendly, has ultra-fast loading times and you don’t have to download an app! While navigating through the virtual fair, you will find the main showroom or pavilions that house the exhibitor booths. The exhibitor booths are unique to each individual business and are equipped with high-resolution avatars and special tabs displaying company overviews, video content, and job opportunities. You can visit the booths on Preview Day, and during the Live Event, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about the businesses, and chat with company representatives. Preview Day
The preview day begins at 9:00 am the day before the event and goes until the start of the live event. On the preview day, you can browse the exhibitor booths and various job opportunities to become familiar with the live site and strategize an outreach plan for which businesses you will want to chat with during the live event.
Live Day
The live event is when you can browse the exhibitor booths and various job opportunities and can chat with business representatives who are logged into the event about their available opportunities. The site will remain open to view opportunities, and it will close at 8:00 am the morning after the live event. Google Chrome Web Browser
Google Chrome is the recommended web browser to access the live event. Other web browsers may have difficulty connecting to the chat or fully connecting to the site. If you are having difficulty connecting, please make sure you are using the Google Chrome Web Browser. Logging into the Event
On the Live Event Site, login by clicking on the login button in the top-right corner of the page and entering your Username and Password.
• Username – This is the e-mail address you put on your registration form when you registered for the event.
• Password – This is the password you put on your registration form when you registered for the event.
*Please note that businesses will be able to see the following information in your profile:
• Name
• County of Residence
• Highest Level of Education
• Certifications (if provided)
• Area of Interest
• Resume (if you uploaded one)

After having logged into the live event site, you can view your profile by clicking on your name or profile picture icon (profile picture or the first letter of your name) in the top right- hand corner of the page, then select “View Profile”.
• Once in your profile, you will see “My Info”, and the option to edit your profile or download your profile.
• The other tab at the top of the page is the “Visited Booths tab” where you can see the businesses whose booths you visited.
• You can also see “Saved Job Postings” in your profile, which will appear in the tab next to My Info, if you have applied to jobs that do not have an external link and you saved as a “favorite”
(clicked the Yellow Star).
• You can also see booths/businesses that you “starred” as interested in. (clicked the Yellow Star after entering that booth)
Uploading Your Profile Picture
• If you did not already upload a profile picture when registering for the event, you can do so by logging into the event site and going to your profile.
• Once in your profile, you will see an option to edit your profile, here is where you will be able to upload a profile picture.
o To upload a photo, go to the image of the person and click the + button, and select the picture that you would like to upload.
Uploading Your Resume
Business Representatives browse resumes during the event and uploading your resume can give you a better chance of having a company representative reach out to you.
• If you did not already upload a resume when registering for the event, you can do so by logging into the event site and going to your profile.
• Once in your profile, you will see an option to edit your profile, here is where you will be able to upload your resume.
• Once in your profile, you can upload your resume where it says, “Upload Document”.
• You can upload up to two documents and they must be a word document or PDF. You can upload either two resumes or a resume and a cover letter. o The site will not accept an image upload from a phone or other device. o Once you upload a resume, you can always delete or change it by clicking “Replace resume” while editing your profile.
• Businesses will be able to view and download your resume if you “visit” their booth. o If you are uncomfortable with uploading your resume to your profile or you are unable to, you can upload it though the private chat feature to a business, using the paperclip icon.
*If you make any edits to your profile, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit “Save” to ensure these updates are saved and viewable by businesses. Accessing the Virtual Fair
The home screen displays the main showroom or pavilions where the individual booths are housed. You can view the pavilions by using the menu on the left-hand side of the page or by scrolling down the home page.
When you go to the live event site, you will see a Main Menu on the left-hand side, and a Chat Menu on the right-hand side.

• As you scroll down, you will see a Welcome Message, and links to the following: o Pavilions

o Webinars
• As you scroll down further, you will see the pavilions and the booths housed in those pavilions. Main Menu
From any page in the virtual fair, you can see the Main Menu on the left-hand side of your screen.
• Home
o Clicking on this tab navigates you back to the home page you see when logging in.
• Info Stand
o Clicking on this tab brings you to the Department of Labor Info Stand Booth where you can find helpful information about navigating the virtual fair.
If you have any questions during the fair, a Department of Labor staff member will be available to assist you; just look at the list of exhibitors or click a staff member’s name in the Info Stand Booth under “Contact” to connect with a Department of Labor Staff.

• Pavilions
o The pavilions are listed by industry or location and can be accessed by using the menu on the left-hand side of the page or by scrolling down the home page. o When you click on the pavilions tab, a list of pavilions, with the number of booths that are housed there, will appear.
You can click on any of these to enter a specific pavilion.
While in the pavilion, you can view the available booths and filter by County, or which businesses are logged on to the live event.
There is also a search bar at the top of each pavilion page where you can type in a specific company to navigate to its booth more quickly.
Be sure to scroll down the page to see all of the companies’ booths in that pavilion.

When you are in a pavilion you can always navigate back to the list of pavilions by clicking “Pavilions” on the main menu.
You can also click the button at the top right-hand side of the page that says
“Pavilion Change” to select and view a different pavilion of your choice.
• Job Postings
o Clicking on this tab brings you to a list of all the job postings that the exhibiting businesses posted to their booths.
o You can search by a keyword in the search bar at the top of this page to find a specific job opening.
o You can also search the openings by Sector, County, and Company Name. o Click the job posting to expand it and view more information about the job, application information and links, or go to the company’s booth. o Click the star on the right of the job posting to keep track of jobs you are interested in and save them as a favorite while you are browsing.
To see all your favorited jobs, view your profile by clicking your name in the top right and go to the “Saved Job Postings” tab. From here you can view the full job posting again and apply.
• Seminars
o Here you can access NYSDOL Informational Videos that are uploaded to the event.
• Webinars Agenda
o Some businesses will hold scheduled webinars which will be useful to learning more about their business and their hiring opportunities.
• Languages
o To change the language on the site, go to the languages tab on the main menu, at the bottom of the screen, and click on the desired language. The menu and pavilion will then appear in the selected language.
• Accessibility
o Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Feature – To select assistive technology click on the Accessibility icon at the bottom left-hand corner of the menu.
o Use this to select pre-set profiles based on your needs or select individual settings to create your own customized view.

The following are pre-set profiles you can select:
• Seizure Safe Profile
o This profile enables seizure prone users to browse safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and certain visual patterns and contrasting color combinations.
• Vision Impaired Profile
o This profile adjusts the website for various visual impairments.
• Cognitive Disability Profile
o This profile provides various assistive features to help users with cognitive disabilities to focus on the essential elements of the website.
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Friendly Profile o This profile reduces distractions, to help people with Neurodevelopmental disorders browse, read, and focus more easily.
• Blind Users (Screen-Reader)
o This profile adjusts the website to be compatible with screen readers that are already installed on the user’s device.
• Keyboard Navigation (motor)
o This profile enables people with motor impairments to operate the website using certain keys and shortcuts to jump to specific elements.
Booths
After selecting the booth of your choice from the pavilion, you will be directed inside the company’s booth.
• If you uploaded a resume and/or another document to your virtual fair profile, a business will receive a copy when you visit their booth.
• Once in the booth, you can click on the yellow star to favorite this booth/business. This can also be done from the pavilion view, on the outside of the booth. NYSDOL Virtual Career Fair

You can also create a cover letter, while in the booth. Click on “Leave Cover Letter” after entering the booth.
Under extra information, fill in the tone of the message.
Click on Create your cover letter and edit the generated text (fill in the boxes)
Hit “send” when completed.
*Please note that you can only send a business one cover letter, so the same business will not receive multiple cover letters from you.
As you scroll down the booth, there is a menu under the booth name with the following:
• Profile
o Here you will see an overview of the company to better understand what the business is about and what they are looking for in a potential employee. o You can find contact information for the company’s Hiring/Human Resources. o Here you can also access important links such as the company’s website or o application portal.
o Social Networks - Click on the Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn logos to view the company’s social media sites.
• Contact
o The mailbox is where you can send an e-mail message to business representatives within the virtual fair platform, separate from the chat feature. If you want to get in touch with a business and they are not logged into the event, this is another way that you can.
• Job Postings
o Click here for detailed descriptions of each job opportunity at the company. o From here, you can click the “I’m Interested” button to show interest in the position or be redirected to the company’s website to apply, if they have provided an external link.
• Corporate Material
o Here you may see a video that the business posted, providing you with a better idea of the company culture.
o Some companies will provide important documents for you to reference, such as a job application form, which you can download.
*You can go back to the pavilion at any point, by clicking the “Back” button on the top left-hand side of the screen.
*To see only the booths of businesses that are currently logged into the event, go to the top of the pavilion page and click “Online” and then hit the search button. You can also see which businesses have someone logged on, if they have a green dot on the front of their booth. Private Chat
To start a private chat, go to the list of exhibitors in the chat box and click on the business you want to connect with and select the business representative’s name. You can also start a chat with a business from within their booth; to do this, click on the “Contacts” tab and select a business representative to chat with by selecting, “Open Chat”.

• You can have multiple private chats going on at the same time, each chat will appear under the private chat box.
• You can also receive a private chat from a business reaching out to you. o A Green Circle will appear when you receive a new chat message, and if your volume is on, you will also hear a sound notification.
• Using the chat feature during the fair can help you connect one on one with business representatives to give you an advantage over other candidates applying for the same position. Export Private Chat
If you would like to save the conversation you are having with a business, you can export the chat dialogue by clicking on the 3 dots in the upper right-hand side of the chat box and then clicking, “Export Chat”.
Public Chat
The public chat is a public forum unique to each booth, and participants who visit a booth at the fair can see messages from a business’s public chat as well as chat in their public chat.
• Businesses can post information about their business or the types of talent they are looking for.
• A Green Circle will appear when you receive a new public chat message, and if your volume is on, you will also hear a sound notification.
Group Chat
While in the private chat feature, a business can initiate a Group Chat with a minimum of 3 participants and or exhibitors, with no more than 10 users.
Group Chat Feature:
• It is very important that you do not accidentally select Undo Group, because that will cancel the group and delete the chat transcript from other group members' view.
• If you refresh or log off and back into the site, your group chat will not appear again until another member of the group chat sends a message in the group chat.
• If the creator of the group chat exits the group message, the participants can no longer communicate in the group chat.
Video Chat
A business may request to start a video chat with you during the live event. If you do not have a web camera, you can respectfully let the business know and request an alternative interview.
• A video chat can be a 1 on 1 video chat, or with a larger group.
• If the recruiter wants to start a video chat, you will receive a notification to accept the video chat, which will be a notification in orange at the top of the screen, that says, “Open Call”. o Ensure that your phone or computer audio and microphone are working properly ahead of time and that you have a professional looking set-up for video chats. o A video chat window will appear that has three buttons at the bottom:
Cam – adjust camera settings
Mic – adjust microphone settings
Leave – exit video chat
• Note that when you enter a video chat, you will no longer be able to answer any other conversations except for those with the interviewer. You also can navigate the fair until you end the chat.

• Go to the top of the chat box and click the 3 dots in the top on the right-hand side
• Select “Chat Translation”
• Slide the translation button to “on”
• Select the “from” language that you want to translate
• Then select the “to” to your native language
• Make sure to click save to save this change
