EXPERIENCE
BON SECOURS, ST. MARY’S HOSPITAL – GENERAL
SURGERY
Patient Service Rep – Surgery Schedular – Insurance Rep 5801 Bremo Road, Richmond 23226
Manager – DeQuanda Brown
June 2016 – November 2018
I was given the opportunity to start my healthcare career with Bon Secours’ health care, in general surgery of St. Mary’s hospital. In this position I worked diligently under 6 providers, 4 nurse practitioners and multiple RN & LPN nurses. I was hired as a patient service representative, where I assisted our patients on the clerical end to prepare them for their clinical visit. In doing so I welcomed each patient warmly and professionally while simultaneously gathering all the necessary demographics and insurance cards. I then checked each patient in and provided their nurse with the proper information to begin preparing them to see their provider. Once the patient was finished with their appointment, I checked them out and scheduled future appointments. In this position I also answered our office phone calls, sent our nurses and providers patient requests and reached out to other healthcare systems regarding patient care and physician requests. After a year of hard work and dedication I was offered a higher position as a surgery schedular and insurance representative. In this position I no longer worked at the front desk but was given my own office, where I scheduled bariatric surgeries, oncology surgeries and in-office procedures as well. I went through daily requests from outside physicians who were sending patients to our office for specialty surgeries. Once I scheduled patients for surgery, I then started the process of the getting the insurance approved and fully covered for our office and our patient. I am proud to say I left a mark on this office, our patients and providers.
MARY WASHINGTON HEALTHCARE – CENTRALIZED
SCHEDULING
Centralized Scheduling Rep.
2300 Fall Hill Ave, Fredericksburg VA 22407
Manager – Donna Mchugh
November 2018-August 2020
After 2.5 years with Bon Secours healthcare, I was offered a position closer to home with a healthcare system I have known my entire life, Mary Washington healthcare. I was hired as a centralized schedular where I gained experience and knowledge in multiple departments. I was responsible for taking numerous calls daily and scheduling appointments for MRIs, ultrasounds, CT scans, infusions, wound care and office appointments for surgery preparation, just to name a few. Aside from scheduling the appointments, I was also responsible for insurance verification and obtaining accurate demographics. As a schedular I was the first point of contact a patient would have with our organization. A bad over the phone experience could taint a patient’s perspective before they get a chance to experience what we have to offer. I took pride in graciously greeting each patient, making sure they are provided with the most accurate information and best over the phone experience possible. In this position I led the medical records department for our entire office. I worked under 8 physicians, 4 nurse practitioners and several RN & LPN nurses. As the medical records lead, I was responsible to obtaining and providing medical records for over 1,500 patients. I also assisted patients with paperwork for their worker’s compensation, disability forms and FMLA. I was also responsible for requested documentation and patient appointment requests for other offices and healthcare systems. All while simultaneously answering our office phone calls, scheduling appointments and monitoring incoming and outgoing faxes.
ALL-IN SOLUTIONS – THE VA
Medical Records Indexer 2
3940 Plank Road, Fredericksburg VA 22407
Manager – Susan Bathgate
Aug 2023-May 2025
After resigning as the Medical Records lead, due to giving birth to my second child and deciding to be a stay-at-home mother for a year, I was offered a remote position with All-In Solutions as a medical records indexer, level 2. All-In Solutions is a contracted company that works directly for our veterans. In this position I was responsible for taking on several cases a day and indexing the proper records so the veterans may receive the benefits they deserve. In doing so, each case had contentions, requested documents and requested tabs I had to index. Once a case was properly indexed, I then noted the case and submitted it. It was of high importance that these cases be done efficiently and in a timely manner, for those who risk their lives fighting for our country. I absolutely loved this organization; the work being done and what they represented. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts over half of the department had to be let go. As saddened as I was to see this position come to an end, I am ecstatic to know that lives were changed in the process.
