• Ensured our inventory was in place to accommodate each complete upcoming shipment of TBI patient’s medications. Based on my experience, my goal was to send a single monthly shipment to avoid confusion/reduce burden on the patient/family.
• Developed the organization’s unique Patient Care and Advocacy Program (PCAP) which enables pharmacists to work collaboratively with physicians to:
• Provided patient consultations resulting in better outcomes by communicating proper use of medications.
• Monitored multiple daily work queues and ensured prompt resolution including legibility, transfers, new prescriptions/refills and clinical interventions.
• Clinical interventions: monitoring of dangerous combination medications such as the ‘Holy Trinity’ (opioid, benzodiazepine and soma) which we worked diligently to educate physicians and patients for avoidance of respiratory depression.
• Supported continuous quality improvement of pharmacy operations by collaborating with other key contributors ensuring staff members were retrained where needed.
• Implemented State Formularies for Worker’s Compensation Regulations
• Educated myself on Official Disabilities Guidelines (ODG) which most states follow when establishing their Worker’s Compensation formularies (e.g. TX, OK, AZ, etc.).
• Developed optimal systematic processes regarding state formularies in alignment with Worker’s Compensation regulations.
o Trained pharmacists regarding the formularies and the options to consider in working with the physicians. This included ‘N-drugs’ (not covered medication) which need to be reviewed with physician for potential alternatives or prior authorization process would need to be initiated with the carrier.
Prior authorization process required me to collaborate with IT and our Claims Department to implement the appropriate systematic changes to be successful.
