10/2000-06/2025: United States Agency for International Development – served in a variety of countries in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe, including post-war Kosovo (1999) post-earthquake Haiti (2010), and the West African Ebola Response (2014) monitoring conditions that may lead to increased humanitarian need; assessing crises and determining most appropriate role for the U.S. government; representing the U.S. government; and overseeing implementation of humanitarian assistance programs to ensure a high-quality of service to those in need.
09/1986-09/2000: CARE, Inc. – served in a variety of countries and disaster contexts in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe including Somalia refugee influx (1986), Mozambique civil war(1987-92), Southern Africa Drought (1992-93), Rwandan Genocide (1994-96), and Mozambican floods (2000) implementing relief programs for communities affected by natural disasters and conflicts, managing humanitarian logistics and operations to ensure that people in need receive life-saving assistance.
10/1983 – 08/1984 – Assistant to the Port Engineer, Aztec Trading Company, Savannah, GA. Provided logistics support for the company’s two vessels, including crew support, provisioning and supply, and mechanical repairs. Crewed on the company’s vessels and undertook port surveys and observed cargo discharge operations to update company files.
07/1980 – 07/1983 – Peace Corps Volunteer, US Peace Corps, Zaire. Taught English as a Second Language in Secondary School and Leatherwork to disabled boys and men. Establish a tannery to supply leather for an orthopedic center.
