Provided engineering and maintenance leadership to 14 subordinates with scheduling of shutdowns by managing an annual budget in excess of $3,400,000 by taking advantage of scheduled downtimes to perform maintenance functions to minimize impact to production schedule.

Schedule and monitor short- and long-term equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, building maintenance and capital project budgets and manpower requirements to ensure the vendors and contractor activity coordinate with the arrival of equipment and support systems (electrical and mechanical hardware) to ensure that the project has the least impact to the production lines.

Improved the preventive maintenance downtime requirements by 12 hours per event by using the production technicians do perform cleaning activities previously conducted by maintenance which allowed for each line to come back on-line during the night shift. Financially this added $48k monthly to product available for sales.

Installed a reverse osmosis system that would allow for production water to be filtered and reused versus having a single pass through the facility before being discharged back to the town at an annual expense of $500k for water and sewer.

Manager of Engineering 2003 - 2010

Develop and implemented engineering and maintenance operating procedures pertaining to all aspects of the department along with document control for (Engineering Flow Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, and equipment schematics) used to assist in trouble shooting and for process product development.

Directed Engineering Department in the design and development of a roll converting machine that converted 42-inch diameter rolls into 8-foot diameter rolls for a flooring customer. This prototype machine was in service for 1.5 years resulting more than $500k in sales until a custom winder could be purchased from an equipment manufacturer.

Manage environmental engineer to ensure that facility stays compliant with local, state, and federal regulations along with making the facility Zero landfill compliant as directed by corporate management.

Modified the recovery system that would separate the water from the bath media by venting the steam to atmosphere versus converting it back to water and then discharging water back to the town for a fee. Initially the saving was $250k per year which increased 8% per year from the original installation in 2010.

Monitor daily utility usage to determine areas of high usage and investigate down to root cause to resolve the situation. Excessive water usage has a significant impact to gas and electric costs if it is not monitored and corrected before water is discharged to the recovery system.

Installed a water well for the back half of the facility taking it off the town supply resulting in an annual savings of $75k.

Mechanical Engineer 1997 - 2003

Install new production equipment to increase productivity with reducing manufacturing costs without interrupting existing production requirements such as a $2.4 million extrusion line, $45k evaporator vent to atmosphere which saved $300k in water and sewer savings.

Worked with the Depart of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for the installation of an air scrubber system that would reduce visible exhaust emission by less than 10 percent. Facility was facing a daily penalty of $5k per day until a viable solution was installed. By working with the DEQ the fine was avoided, and a path forward was identified and funded.

ABEX FRICTION PRODUCTS, Winchester, VA

Implemented the design, fabrication, installation, and startup of work cells that combined three operations into one cell operated by one technician resulting in reduced production time, handling procedures and workforce requirements. During a three period went from two work cells to fourteen work cells that were moved to Orangeburg SC where an additional six cells where installed that produce 90% of disc brakes manufactured in North America for original equipment and aftermarket sales. Along with the work cells, 10 finishing lines consisting of deburring, grinding and powder coating systems.

ABEX RESEARCH CENTER, Mahwah, NJ

Prepared proposals, schedules, test procedures, final reports, and supervised technicians during machinability studies for various divisions in the organization to determine production-machining practices for new alloys developed by the metallurgy lab.

PUBLICATIONS:

Developed over ninety engineering and maintenance procedures detailing requirements for the successful implementation for capital projects, maintenance activities, equipment breakdown follow up analysis procedures and preventive maintenance activities used in the organization in Virginia with some being incorporated at the Rhode Island facility.
