Duties and Responsibilities: In an effort to reduce new infections I participated in the outreach, research communications and assessments of sexually transmitted diseases at the County of Los Angeles, Sexually Transmitted Disease Program, Department of Public Health. I helped manage several projects and was involved in all aspects of planning, research design and analysis of STD program research projects. I also communicated with the public, HIV positive patients, health providers, physicians, community based organizations, and Los Angeles County, Public Health Laboratory. I drafted and submitted two IRBs for a study on social network analysis and syphilis reinfection and for a multi-faceted interactive on-line project for HIV positive populations. I also drafted talking points for a media release, including STD trends for our “I know” campaign and STD Home Test Kit project for young women ages 15 to 25. I collaborated with the manufacture (GenProbe) of the vaginal swab STD test kits and received N=5000 free STD home test kits to support our programs objectives. I managed the website via daily uploads of STD test kit orders and supervised the flow with four LAC Public Health employees in regards to processing orders, quality assurance, and mailing the requested test kits. I also provided weekly updates on the programs orders, positivity rates and demographics to senior staff and collaborators. I embrace several new intervention strategies and screenings services, including social marketing campaigns, the internet and developing effective health promotion and campaign materials that are designed to develop awareness, and promote prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
