Key Successes
Leadership in Crisis
Navigated 2020-2021 and brought to the team a plan with innovative and adaptive solutions to provide full service to our members during uncharted modern times. This would not have been possible without a strong business continuity plan and testing, along with well-documented plans. I provided strong leadership to aid morale high and allow employees to address family needs during this uncertain period. Keys to this success have been diverse, including maintaining a collaborative culture, providing clear and consistent communication across the organization, adapting policies and procedures in response to rapidly changing world circumstances, and balancing thoughtful and timely communication with the importance of protecting confidentiality.
Continuous Learning and Development of Key Knowledge
Attend conferences and seminars to increase awareness of new and emerging technologies. Take advantage of schools and opportunities to hone strengths and improve weaknesses. Review publications and industry blogs to familiarize myself with lates trends in management, technology and the economic environment.
Vision for Growth and Innovation
I have led two separate credit unions through a core processor conversion while fostering a climate of transformation and learning. During these initiatives, I coordinated the search and RFP process, utilizing industry experts and my own expertise in operational based technologies. Finding the right fit for each credit union depended on key factors related to each organization’s strategic initiatives and their complexity of operations. In both instances, close examination of subtle nuances was necessary to discern whether potential solutions were a good fit with the organization’s needs and their threshold for employing innovative technologies.
Duty to the Organization and its Member Owners
NCUA examinations and key area audits have been strong and positive throughout my areas of responsibility. NCUA and external audit companies frequently praise our organization as a model for other organizations struggling to meet regulations or who have operational challenges and gaps. I proactively spend time researching and assessing industry regulations considering our organizational policies and procedures to anticipate potential risk; I consider audit-preparedness an essential state in which an organization should strive to reside, as a demonstration of ongoing accountability and stewardship. Consequently, NCUA and other external auditors consistently refer other credit unions to us for consultation and resource development.
Measurable Outcome
Reduced delinquency rates from 1.20%+ to below 0.40%. When challenged with the opportunity to lead our Member Solutions (Collections) department, our institution faced higher than usual delinquency rates. I drew on the experience of previous successes in my career and immersed myself in assessing productivity measures and contributing environmental factors. I recognized quickly that we needed to adjust department priorities, address staffing needs, and realign experience levels. Within a brief period, we reversed the problematic trend, and implemented an enduring process to operate effectively and efficiently.
Vendor and Partner Management
Managed many of the operational and technology vendor partnerships that filled the most critical enterprise-wide functions. Included in this duty I have had great success in negotiating favorable terms in our vendor contract negotiations, saving the credit union millions of dollars. Fostered partner relationships to ensure service and responsiveness was optimized in times of need.
Community Impact
As a founding member of the Touch-A-Truck event for the Home Builders and Associates of Central Virginia representing Member One, I have chaired the event three times with two of the three achieving record high donations, (over $220,000) to local charities that support our communities’ youth at risk. In addition to chairing the committees, I generated revenue for the non-profit association during the economic downturn by tapping into other community resources that were able to contribute. Leading and motivating a volunteer staff to accomplish these successes is a trait that I like to strengthen continuously. As an active member of Freemasonry and the multitudes of charitable organizations and efforts they undergo, provides me the ability to learn how to help and teach our communities to thrive.
