PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

MITRE Corporation Mar 2024 - Present

LEAD DATA ENGINEER – L146

As a Lead Data Professional at MITRE, I contribute to a wide array of projects, encompassing data integration, data cataloging, and the development of sophisticated data ontologies. I design innovative solutions by leveraging advanced methodologies and cutting-edge tools.

Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) – US Airforce

The Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) Data Strategy establishes a framework with data-as-a-service (DaaS) and governance to ensure quality data is controlled and accessible in the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS). As part of the deliverables to the ABMS project.

Selected and implemented data catalog software - Datahub ( https://datahubproject.io/), for the prototype, evaluating its features against other tools and developing a comprehensive comparison document.

Designed an architectural framework for a distributed data mesh data catalog system, ensuring scalability and adaptability to the evolving data needs of the ABMS organization.

Researched and implemented optimal syncing strategies to maintain consistent metadata across all nodes, enhancing data reliability and accessibility. This is a key requirement of the ABMS Data Strategy to maintain a consistent metadata repository across all master and child nodes.

Explored and tested Datahub APIs using GraphQL scripts and the Python SDK, creating sample scripts to assist users with metadata searching.

Developed documentation for a highly available Datahub installation using AWS cloud services, Kubernetes, and Elasticsearch clusters, ensuring a resilient environment safe from DDIL (Denied, Disrupted, Intermittent, and Limited Impact).

CDC – NVSS Modernization Project

Modernizing CDC's National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) by transitioning from on-premises infrastructure to a hybrid cloud solution

Conducted a thorough analysis of existing processes (SSIS packages) with team members, and analyzed the technologies being used, which primarily involved Microsoft tools such as SQL Server, Integration Services, and SQL Server Analysis Services. Identified and documented data collection methods from multiple sources and the use of analytical cubes for management decision-making.

Following the initial analysis, I assisted in setting up a sandbox environment for team use, created databases and cubes, and developed various SSIS packages to replicate the existing CDC processes.

Created services on Azure, such as Managed Instances, Azure SQL databases, Azure Data Factory and Analysis Services, as part of a prototype to shift on-premises services to the cloud, converting the existing system into a hybrid cloud/on-premises environment.

As the main Data Engineer of the project, I assisted the team with setting up their accounts and permissions, as well as resolving other database-related issues encountered during their development.

Developed source-target matrix to map the data flow between source and target systems.

Created ETL process documents to outline the data processing steps and data quality checks.

Design and develop Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS) assets, including tasks, mappings, and mapplets, to meet business requirements. Utilize advanced transformations and data integration features within IICS to implement end-to-end workflows and data pipelines. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure accurate data synchronization and efficient ETL/ELT processes in a cloud-based environment.
