I opened the Customs Brokerage division and ran all day-to-day operations as well as administrative and regulatory tasks. Corporate license issued and approved for CHB operations under the New Orleans District and Memphis BMO.
Obtained local and national permits, RLF certification, electronic record retention, as well as ACE certification. Three licensed brokers reported to me for daily operations. Handled a variety and mix of commodities for commercial accounts and involved in trade show activity and the imports and regulatory requirements associated with them. Audited all documentation for admissibility and entry. Validation of new importers and POAs to ensure correct data was reported to CBP. Customs Compliance awareness and the importance of data integrity were at the forefront of any educational or training I provided. Creating a service that would enhance and expedite our client’s merchandise while having comfort in our regulatory reporting. Entry processing, ACH, Account maintenance. Managed staff of entry writers and licensed brokers. My career here began opening freight boxes and clearing cargo at DFW Airport dealing with the Customs officers and other government agencies directly. As part of expanding overall knowledge from the ground up, also loaded and unloaded freight in our facility, delivered cargo to our customers warehouses after Customs release. Classified and submitted entries, wrote bonds and cargo insurance if it was needed. Transitioned from paper to the ABI error. Worked with all vendors, from focal truckers to our overseas agents. Trained and tested for the Custom Brokers exam, passed and received CBL in 1997.
