Supervise all daily activities, operations, and maintenance of the OSJL transportation fleet,consisting of a group of CDL truck drivers including yard spotters, local delivery drivers,over-the-road drivers; plus shipping desk, transportation fleet support, fleet mechanics, and dispatch supervisors.
Build and influence positive associate morale and quality customer service as well as represent OSJL and the department professionally and effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Maintain positive relations with drivers, stores, and internal partners.
Manage associate performance, write performance reviews and provide coaching and feedback.
As needed, delegate work and follow up with team members to confirm timely completion of tasks.
Assist with hiring, coaching and disciplinary actions for team members; train new team members and act as a mentor to develop new teammates.
Collaborate with departments throughout the company including but not limited to Store Operations and Property Development around store openings and remodels, and with Human Resources to escalate driver concerns as they arise.
Work with the Fleet Safety Manager to maintain content and compliance of fleet handbook policies and procedures as well as to implement and administer company safety programs and policies to measure and reduce the occurrence and cost of collisions, injuries, near-misses, and equipment damage. Maintain and ensure accident reporting procedures are followed in accordance with company policy.
Collaborate to ensure all drivers comply with federal and state Department of Transportation (DOT) and company policies including but not limited to random drug screening, certification of violations/MVR, and annual medical reviews.
Work with Router/Planner, Inbound Planning teams, and Transportation Operations Management to increase backhaul percentage and minimize empty miles and deadhead lanes.
Assign, instruct and direct all driver activities, including but not limited to daily delivery, vendor pickup, donation processes, facility shuttles programs, and special routings. Ensure all loads are dispatched in a timely manner in and in compliance with planned schedules.
Manage drivers’ ELD system for eLogs, trip management, and analysis of driver performance.
Coach and provide feedback to drivers on how to improve performance. Provide valid performance data for internal and external reports.
Accurately complete the Shift Pass-On Log on a daily basis.
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of key DC systems and reporting, including transportation ELD OBC, TMS, trailer tracking, and routing systems.
Manage department teams to effectively plan daily deliveries, fleet backhaul, and all facets of load and trip planning; and to clearly communicate work instructions to drivers.
Document late shipments, including but not limited to why a shipment dispatched after its scheduled time, missed arrival times, driver issues, and equipment issues.
Ensure all equipment inspections are completed and vehicle registration and inspection reports are updated.
