Install, repair, maintain, test and inspect signal systems including public crossings, switches, absolute and intermediate signals, automatic block, traffic control, train control, and interlocking systems. Use of a wide variety of hand tools, on track high-rail equipment, and test instruments.
• Completed classroom training and on the job training while a Signal Apprentice to become a Signalman.
•Classroom instruction/training were completed at National Academy of Railroad Sciences at the Johnson County Community College.
•Passing Exam Scores and trainings were required to remain on the job while an apprentice. Classes at National Academy of Railroad Sciences (Johnson County Community College)included:
Signalman Training: work skills required for work as a signalman, including basic knowledge of electricity and electronics, relay logic, highway-grade crossing warning systems, standard test and inspection methods, and exposure to the latest railroad signaling technologies. Worked in an error-forgiving lab environment on the same equipment they install and maintain in the field, including signals, electronic switches, and computer equipment. Training is conducted using traffic control, grade crossing, automatic block signal system and automatic interlocking simulators, and track circuit simulators.

Signalman/Maintainer Duties
• using computer programs for testing and inspections of signal systems.
•Recording and logging information out of recording unit devices and testing operations and functions of the signal systems.
•Responsible for keeping accurate equipment on hand for possible trouble calls.
•Responsible for logging hours of service and payroll within the railroad digital systems.
•work with various teams to install, inspect, test, and repair electric gate crossings, signals, and signal equipment within the division of railroad system.
