2012 – 2024 (December) AVAYA, Senior Program Manager

Led individual projects and multi-project programs through their entire lifecycle (from charter to close). Areas of focus included Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, Real Estate, and Strategic Partnerships. Responsible for scoping, planning, risk management, communication, escalation, execution tracking, testing and deployment. Both SDLC and Agile (waterfall) project methodologies were used depending on the specific needs of the project.

Program Leader in the Transformation Management Office (TMO) working directly with the CFO, CAO, CIO, CMO, Chief Legal Counsel, Head of Tax, VP of Global Sales, Supply Chain VP, Senior Director of Real Estate, and other senior leaders in the major restructuring of the company. Facilitated working sessions with senior leaders to establish executable plans/actions based on company strategy to meet Avaya’s financial commitments.

Managed the Supply Chain project portfolio that included a $1.2M annual IT budget (internal and external spend). Aligned with cross-functional business and IT leaders to prioritize, staff, schedule and deliver each project on time and on budget. Ensured that each proposed program/project aligned with Avaya’s corporate strategy and had an acceptable business case prior to being approved.

Ran Avaya’s project management training project (along with 2 other core members) that included live instruction, weekly one on one mentoring, team workshops, and continuous improvement of the training material. I was one of the program leaders for over 10 years.

AVAYA SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Led the implementation of a new solution to resell vendor term/tier subscriptions which involved the design, build, testing, and deployment of new SAP functionality, enhanced business processes, and collaboration changes with key partners.

Program managed the implementation of a strategic business process and technical solution to invoice customers for shipping and handling charges when using Avaya’s logistics services. Activities included contract negotiations/addendums, internal policy modifications, business process and organizational changes, customer communications, and ERP technical work. The 2-year program achieved bottom line revenue benefits of $5M to $7M per year.

Led a cross-functional business and technical team to invent a new solution in Kinaxis Rapid Response to support Avaya’s Product Cost Reduction process (and decommission an outdated 7 year old homegrown legacy tool). The new cloud based application integrates component data with the sales forecast, supply plan, and SAP procurement history to identify/track product cost savings. The component cost savings is approximately $3M per year.

2009 – 2012 TEKELEC, IT Program Manager

Managed the Supply Chain project portfolio. Aligned with cross-functional business and IT leaders to prioritize, staff, schedule and deliver each project on time and on budget. Ensured that each proposed program/project aligned with Avaya’s corporate strategy and has an acceptable business case prior to being approved.

Designed technical solutions including cross technology integration, configured Oracle, setup master data, and worked closely with programmers in solution coding.

TEKELEC SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENT

Drove the program to redesign the end-to-end procurement process leveraging Cloud Based Oracle ERP functionality including MRP Planning, Min-Max inventory control, back-to-back purchasing, and drop ship fulfillment. The program included implementing the Oracle iSupplier Portal for all of Tekelec’s direct suppliers (over 80% of spend) thereby eliminating manual collaborations, reducing lead times, and minimizing errors. The project benefit was over $2M per year.

2000 – 2009 NORTEL NETWORKS, Senior IT Program Manager

Directly managed 6 IT technical developers and project managers including hiring, staff reductions, yearly evaluations, promotions, salary adjustments, work prioritization, etc

Designed technical solutions including cross technology integration, configured SAP, setup master data, and worked closely with ABAP’ers in solution coding.

NORTEL SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENT

Led the IT team in creating the strategy, process and solution(s) involved in the global outsourcing of all Nortel’s manufacturing plants to Flextronics. A particularly challenging requirement that I personally created a solution for was migrating in-flight customer orders within SAP to the new outsourced vendor (approximately 60,000 orders). The implementation of the program, which was formally recognized by Nortel’s CEO, was completed with no negative impact to customers or to the quarterly revenue. The overall program benefit was approximately $100M.

SENIOR PROGRAM MANAGER. Avaya. Determine/Drive strategy, business process transformation and system solutions for Avaya’s supply chain including Logistics, Order Management, Manufacturing, Warehousing, MRP/Planning, Procurement, and Transportation. Create the supply chain program portfolio, establish program budgets, determine program priorities, initiate and lead individual programs, implement solutions and track results.

IT PROGRAM MANAGER. Tekelec. Responsible for strategy, IT architecture, business processes, and technical solutions supporting Tekelec’s entire supply chain including Order Management, Manufacturing, Warehousing, MRP/Planning, Procurement, Logistics and Document Control. Led the solution design supporting Tekelec’s transition from a hardware based to a software based company leveraging electronic software delivery and electronic licensing.

SENIOR PROGRAM MANAGER. Nortel Networks. Responsible for the execution of a wide range of business and IT initiatives including ERP projects (SAP), infrastructure projects (data center consolidation), offshore outsourcing, legacy system decommissioning, and selecting external partners. Directly managed a team of approximately 60 internal/external people that included project managers, system analysts, business analysts, programmers, and basis support.

TRAINING AND MENTORING. In addition to my full time Project Management assignment, I am a lead instructor in Avaya’s Project Leadership training program where I mentor participants, instruct classes, lead workshops, and continuously improve the program based on the needs of the company. My involvement in training/mentoring enables me to enhance the skills of the company as well as continue to improve my own project manager skills.
