WORK HISTORY
Medical Laboratory Technician/Phlebotomy Lead – VAMC Carl T. Hayden Veterans Hospital Phoenix Arizona September 2024 to present. Serves as the Lead Medical Technician, responsible for assisting team in producing timely phlebotomy service to veterans with emphasis on maintaining a satisfactory level of customer service excellence and team competency. Additional duties include Providing customers with laboratory information, supplies, collection instructions and referring the customer to the appropriate sections for test-specific technical information. Preparing the monthly schedule/duty assignment for all staff in the Phlebotomy Department when the Phlebotomy Supervisor is unavailable or delegates the duty. Assigning personnel to the various subsections within the section (e.g. send outs, inpatient, outpatient, STAT draws, AM rounds) in a fair and equitable rotation. Assisting with orientation, scheduling and training of employees, volunteers and students; and coordinating phlebotomy student externship rotations with the affiliated school phlebotomy program. Preparing procedures, guidelines, instructions and policies for Section use by medical technologists, medical technicians, other staff members and students when assigned by the Phlebotomy Supervisor. Establishing and maintaining an inventory control program in the inpatient area to ensure adequate inventory of supplies /reagents for the section. Preparing various reports, promulgating and submitting data for reports or analysis as assigned by the Phlebotomy Supervisor or Laboratory Manager. Determining need for additional or replacement equipment and instrumentation and selecting such based-on cost, rental or outright purchase. Evaluating subordinate conduct and competency consistent with Medical Center policies as outlined in the Performance Appraisal System and the negotiated agreements. Reviewing work while in progress periodically and reviews completed work for accuracy and adherence to established procedures, accepting, amending or rejecting completed work. Responsible for proper receipt and accessioning of specimens; processing specimens (centrifugation, labeling, pour-offs); entering and verifying results; following up on misdraws, deletions, cancellations and incompletes, ordering send out tests, delivery of specimens, temp verification of incoming specimens, etc. Responsible for the timely and proper distribution of specimens to the appropriate section or reference laboratories. Obtaining venous blood samples by aseptic venipuncture technique; correctly identifying the patient before obtaining any specimen and properly labels the specimen following specimen procurement according to established procedure. Performing all phlebotomies and tests/examinations offered in Section within acceptable turnaround times. Assisting in performance of moderate complexity laboratory tests in other sections of the laboratory when necessary. Performing other related duties as assigned.
Laboratory Technician – Kaiser Permanente Hospital Portland Oregon October 2023 to October 2023. Performs 60-70 draws daily, by venipuncture and capillary specimen collection on patients. Performs in-house phlebotomy, in house processing, phlebotomy in a physician office setting, or registration and phlebotomy in a patient service center. Medical Lab Technician/Phlebotomy Trainer – GS-7 Madigan Army Medical Center U.S. Army Medical Command Joint Base Lewis Tacoma, WA September 2017 to October 2022. 40 hours per week. Performs as Medical Lab Technician/Phlebotomy Lead within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (DPLMS) at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. Serve as a Phlebotomy Lead for permanent personnel, supervising their complete training and competency. Perform daily maintenance and quality control while performing operator maintenance of the Cobas 8100 hospital analyzer. Expert in the use of laboratory computer systems with data entry, to include verification and certification of patient results. Utilized Genesis, Cerner, and Power Chart to maintain accurate records and patient charts, ensuring quality control results within established control limits. Competency assessed to perform laboratory testing in all sections of the laboratory, to include chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Phlebotomy. Clinical Lab Technician/Phlebotomy Lead - Laboratory Corporation of America Swedish Hospital Seattle WA April 2013 to June 2016. 40+ hours per week. Proficient in accessing and releasing orders in EPIC EMR. Over 14 years of ICD-9/ICD-10 experience, utilized on daily basis. Utilizes LCM/Cyber Tools and Test Cup for analysis. Specializing in the preparation, packaging, and shipping/manifesting of various waived, and nonwaived testing specimen types daily. Performs difficult draws on geriatric and pediatric patients, specializing in pediatrics draws. Processed AlloMap specimens for heart transplant patients at room temperature, processed the lysate particles of the specimens, gently inverting the tube at least ten times to fully mix the blood with anticoagulant. Label the tubes for specimen identification by placing a bar-coded label from the AlloMap Test Requisition Form (TRF) on the CPT tube. On the TRF, processed the specimen with collection date and time. From the AlloMap Sample Processing Reagents Box, obtained the centrifuged tube containing phosphate buffered saline. (PBS) Complete processing by labeling the centrifuge tube with a barcode label from the patient’s AlloMap TRF, placing the barcode label in a vertical orientation in the designated space on the PBS reagent label. After centrifugation, separated mononuclear cells into the plasma. Poured off the plasma/mononuclear cell mixture from the CPT tube into the labeled centrifuge tube that contains PBS. Cap and invert at least ten times to mix. When processing is complete, freeze upright at -15º C until shipped to CareDx for AlloMap testing. I possess specialized experience in the preparation and processing of clinical specimens for shipment, including the input of test results in a laboratory information system.
