August 2012 to May 2014
Teacher Mathematics grade 9, 11 & 12
Canadian International School of Beijing, China
I taught in Gr. 6, 9, 11, and 12 studies classes. These were students who had less marks at the previous year or students who want to do Art subjects and have no interest in doing mathematics at the University. I also assisted students who were weak or who did not want to do higher studies. I have improved their grades and motivated them to like mathematics. The students have developed a liking for mathematics and are learning well with an interest. I have contacted all the parents and have got their support and interest in the student doing well in mathematics. I also, helped in the after school activities. The badminton and debating club were my special interests. The school did not have an athletic meet or field hockey. I was hoping to start these two activities next year.
April 2007 – May 2012 Principal, Wesley College, Colombo, Sri Lanka
Improved the quality of education at the school. Increased the pass rate of grade 13 students from 65% to 92%. Improved the pass rate of Mathematics to 95% and English to 98%. Motivated the teachers to improve their educational qualifications and assisted them by providing facilities to borrow their tuition fees.
Controlled all the funding and admissions to the school. Developed the new swimming pool, built three new buildings to provide accommodation to students. Raised 200 million for the school from outside sources. Raised over 5million for the Prize Giving.
Previously – Teacher Carey College
Teacher Mathematics for 7 years
Taught Mathematics to students in grade 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10. I taught both in the traditional way and the activity base method used by IB teachers. The IB method proved to be successful for most students. But, some preferred the traditional method. These are students who wanted to get high marks by memorizing and not worried about applying it later on in real life.
I also taught, Geometrical Drawing to Grade 9 and 10 students. This was well appreciated by the learners. They performed very well in the public examinations.
In addition, I taught, Economics and Business studies when there was a need in the school. Most of the time I did after school activities which proved worthwhile as the school did very well in Field Hockey, Athletics, Basket Ball, Cricket and Table Tennis. I was scout master for several years. Many did their best to get President Scout awards.
