I am growing up in a single parent household. As I grow, I understand that this is for many families a barrier because one person can only do so much. I believe this is what impacts me to better my circumstances. One of my objectives is to show myself and those around me that whatever you pursue you can do. I know I can do whatever I choose to, an that the choices Im making now is president to the beginning of the rest of my life. What I choose to and not to do. Im choosing to show up for myself. My mom says "it may not happen for everyone the same way", she says "but it can happen". I am learning how to make more opportunities, and how to avoid and overcome obstacles. Learning that is what is helping me, I feel like what I do and don't do is also an example for others. My environment has a major impact on my family and I. Not having healthy food options or healthy foods being too costly causes many to have a poor diet which will lead to having poor health, so I am making decisions to eat healthy so I can stay healthy.
I am hoping to learn more skills that I can take with me into the work force. I want to learn things that I can teach someone else. By putting myself productive spaces I can become more productive stay off the streets. My twin brothers are 9 and I want them to see me as someone to guide them, so i am making good choices. If I gain this internship I would be able to (like last year through SYP) buy my school supplies and clothes helping myself and my mother also. I would learn how to work and save. I would also be meeting new people who can positively change my future. meet more like minded people and people that want to become productive people for themselves and their community. Im hoping that by other children seeing me being responsible to themselves and their community that they see and know that they can do the same.
I like sciences, all kinds, biology, physiology, sociology chemistry to name a few. I would like to be a part of something that contributes to the betterment and preservation of humanity. Always been inquisitive of how things work and how things have come to be and nothing else explains these things other than science. I have dissected a few animals at school and have used a microscope. My mother has always had a telescope. Our family has season pass to the Hall of Science we spend summers, birthdays and go to their special events if we could make it out. As I see more representation of myself in these fields, I know anything is possible. I will be going into 10th grade, and I would like to have things to put on my college application. I am also gaining an experience that my family otherwise wouldn't be able to afford to bestow upon me, but they along with myself will make sure I make it to all of my obligations.
