PROFILE
Tutor who understands the needs of students when they are attempting to master a math or numerical business course. After being assigned to, or contacted by, a new student, I set up a tentative tutor session to meet with the student to determine the tutoring needs of the student. Then I administer a brief quiz to help determine the topics where the student needs help. This helps focus the tutor sessions to be the most effective for the student. This usually means presenting & explaining the theory or procedure in order to build the student's knowledge. Then I usually assign some worksheets for the student to practice what they have learned. Over the past 6 years, have tutored 100+ high school students in Algebra I & II, Geometry, Physics, and pre-Calculus; and college students in Accounting, Economics, and Statistics, nearly all of them online using either Zoom or Skype. This includes increasing the student’s motivation for learning the topic, providing additional resource material to help the students understand procedures for solving all kinds of math problems, and teaching them how to take exams so that they can relax, focus, and earn better grades. TUTOR – high school & college students Self Employed 2019 – present My teaching & coaching approach is relaxed with a strong focus on the material to be mastered. First, I work with my students to assure they understand the basics – if needed, we backtrack to master those basics because often the students decided to seek a tutor when they were halfway through the course. Then, we need to ‘double time’ our efforts to get them caught up and understand the new material being presented each week by their instructor.
