Responsible for creating a Common Insurance Model (Operational Data Store) and Semantic Layer for Data Operations. The purpose of the model is to combine and standardize data stores for a half dozen business units across all of Munich RE Specialty Insurance.

TEMPLE UNIVERSITY 11/2013 – 4/2023

Enterprise Data Warehouse Architect

Temple uses Tableau and the IBM/Cognos software suite. Led the implementation of an on-premises Tableau Server, including administration and the governance of projects to manage content access. Designed and developed dashboards, data sources, and co-led the Tableau Community Forum private Temple Tableau User group.

Led all technical aspects of the data warehouse and works with departments across Temple University to model, develop, test, and implement complex mappings and workflows for multiple subject areas within the Banner ERP using Oracle Data Integrator and other technologies. Installed Oracle RAC environment for migration to the new VERTEX sales tax application.

Tuned data warehouse queries to make sure nightly ETL process completed in outage window. This ensured the online system was available in accordance with customer SLAs.

First Data Architect at SunGard. Played a key role in starting a data warehousing/BI team to provide the first reporting solution for existing SunGard ERP customers. Set direction for Enterprise Data Warehouse architecture, ETL, and BI/Reporting.

Designed the company’s first enterprise data warehouse product. Worked closely with functional analysts, users and domain experts to facilitate data modeling sessions.

Presented EDW Data Architecture at annual SunGard Summit User conferences attended by over 5000 higher education professionals. This informed customer of the company’s technical direction of the warehouse before it was developed.

The warehouse supported both operational and analytical reporting. It used the dimensional modeling methodology with detailed level information.

Designed and led development of a metadata repository for the ODS and EDW products.

ETL

Evaluated ETL Tools (SAS Data warehouse, Cognos Decision Stream, among others) resulting in use of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).

Designed and developed prototype for loading star schemas using the Oracle Warehouse Builder ETL tool. This prototype became the model for ETL development for the EDW.

Trained development and professional services staff in ETL.

BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE/REPORTING

Evaluated BI reporting tools recommending Cognos 8, and Oracle Discoverer

Developed Cognos 8 framework manager model, and Discoverer End User Layer (EUL). Worked with author and Oracle Ace to develop Discoverer training for clients. He is regarded as the person most knowledgeable about reporting tools at SunGard.

Responsible for installation guides for clients including reporting metadata generated by SQL and XSLT, installing Cognos and Discoverer and training professional services staff.
