Cost Saving Examples

I have used following method for negotiation with suppliers to achieve cost savings.

● Cost Modeling – Define Cost Structure for purchasing Item thru identifying cost elements such as Material cost, Process (Labor) cost, Manufacturing overhead cost, Selling / General / Administration cost, and Profit. We use our predefined commodity group such as Injection, Press, Electronics, Circuit, and Machinery items. Each commodity has its own base cost structure. My responsibility was validating cost structure using supplier’s financial information and market research. I save 1 ~ 3% of purchasing cost annually.

● BCC (Best Cost Country) Sourcing – Identify the Best Cost Source for our items. We have considered not just purchasing cost but total cost such as logistics cost, potential cost related to risk management, inventory cost, and etc. I save about 2% of purchasing cost annually.

● Process Improvement – Lead a team of Factory Innovators from LG production group to help our suppliers to improve their production layout and flow and material handling. I help our supplier to reduce a process cost which results in lowering purchasing cost.

● Inventory Management – Optimize order cycle and quantity to reduce Manufacturing overhead cost and Selling / General / Administration cost for suppliers. Also, working with production group for forecasting and production schedule to optimize inventory on hand (JIT for some components).

● Redefine payment terms and conditions – Based on contract, I review the payment terms and conditions for every quarter due to exchange rate fluctuation and other relevant factors such as market trend and government regulation.
