NOV 2024-Feb 2025 ONE HEALTH RESEARCH PROJECT. (Improving diagnostics and understanding risk factors of antimicrobial resistance in sub-Saharan Africa project of the COMBAT[comprehensive multi-center bio-informatics-based action to tackle AMR[anti-microbial resistance.)

The study involves assessing the colonization rate of multi-drug resistance gram-negative bacteria in slaughterhouse [Dagoretti slaughterhouse], a population commonly exposed to antibiotics, slaughterhouse workers, health care workers, and administrative staff of Kenyatta National Hospital serving as a control group. Also, clinical samples from patients admitted to KNH wards with invasive infections will be tested, and a total of gram-negative isolates of fecal matter per site will be investigated, targeting the presence of e-coli and Klebsiella. Duties involve obtaining consent from the participant, assisting the client in signing the consent, collecting samples, and carrying them in a cooler box with ice packs to enhance their viability and more effortless delivery to KEMRI laboratories for testing.
