Responsibilities:
Pathologist’s Assistant:
Grossing of all daily anatomic specimens, simple and complex. Set up, cutting, and staining of frozen sections. Autopsy Diener under the direction of a Pathologist. Directing the daily operations of the gross room, including supervising, managing, training, and directing Pathologist’s Assistants, Grossers, and Lab Aids. Writing all grossing policies and procedures, including grossing manuals and canned dictation. Insuring safe and accurate departmental procedures, maintaining quality control processes, writing departmental policies and procedures, keeping all manuals current and up to date, maintaining accurate and complete record keeping, maintaining thorough, accurate, and compliant, tissue and chemical storage/disposal. Maintaining all equipment and keeping accurate inventory. Keeping accurate, up to date, and complete monthly quality assurance. Establishing open and professional communication between grossing staff and Pathologists.
Histology:
Embedding, cutting, and staining of all histology specimens. Performing special stains, immunoperoxidase stains, and frozen sections. Assisting on bone marrow biopsies, fine needle biopsies and cytology specimen procedures. Setting up, supervising, and directing of the daily operations of the histology laboratory, including supervising, managing, training, and directing histologists and lab assistants. Writing all histology policies and procedures, including histology manuals. Insuring safe and accurate departmental procedures, maintaining quality control processes, writing departmental policies and procedures, keeping all manuals current and up to date, maintaining accurate and complete record keeping, maintaining thorough, accurate, and compliant, tissue and chemical storage/disposal.
