Current Work Experience
****-**** ********* ************ ** the research team as paralegal and a case developer in criminal cases for prisoners who are wrongfully convicted. The non-profit organization is called “Miracle of Innocence”. I have been volunteering for this organization for 5 years and work over 10 hours a week developing these cases. Currently I have 4 cases I am developing. Detail is a must as a case developer. I read trial transcripts, Appellant transcripts, depositions, recantations, motions, arguments and briefs, forensic evidence, police reports, direct appeals, states response, Habeas Corpus appeals. In other words the document collections can be massive. We only take Missouri or Kansas cases that are either murder, robberies, and prisoners are incarcerated over 25 years. The inmate cannot be in any way at the scene of the crime or DNA related. Our clients have been Keith Carnes, Lamonte Johnson, Kevin Strickland, and currently working on Dana Chandler, and Russell Bryant cases. Currently I am wanting to work part-time as a paralegal, or a triage nurse. I have taken additional law classes were free and taught by Professor Sean O’Brien at UMKC who is on our Board of Directors. www.miracleofinnocnece.org ****@******************.*** I also have been helping our office with intake and initial response. We are a little short on volunteers at the moment and we are getting ready to move our office. Please feel free to look us up on the internet. WE also help the inmates when they get out of prison. WE provide psychological help, a place to live, employment. We give support any way we can with our organization. I have currently been helping as an advocate for prisoners that have been released form prison and check and see what their needs are in society.
My responsibility developing a case : Careful analysis of the disparity between what investigation revealed and what was used at the trial. I need to identify which elements of the investigation never made it to trial (as best we can tell from what is listed in the Direct Appeal) . Is there missing evidence, witnesses? /These cases take months to develop and sometimes years.
Work Experience
Paraprofessional,Substitute Teacher, Retired Nurse of 38 years, Reporter.
Blue Valley North West High School. October 2014- December-2019
Paraprofessional for SPED and IEP students. I was mostly teaching subjects such as Algebra, Geometry Biology and English to all the classes. There were usually 7-10 students in each general class to help and supervise. I also was utilized as emergency substitute teacher with my teaching certificate. I have a Kansas and New Mexico teaching license certification. Being a teacher, detail was necessary and compassionate to each situation and student. Daily I had to report details what the student was psychologically going through and educationally. Empathy and patience was key taking these Special Ed students. Very challenging but yet it was very rewarding.
Facility Nurse Manager
Interim Health Care Overland Park, Kansas April 2010-July 2015
I was a nurse manager for an independent elderly community of 320 individuals. Interim health care was the company on sight at the facility. I supervised the staff on their shift and provided general oversight to employees in all departments on the day, evening and weekend shifts. I was directly responsible for assuring that all the staff provided our clients with good quality customer care, including being attentive and compassionate to all the residents, their families and other staff members. I manage all the medicines, care plans, on call, quality control, hospice referrals, in and out of patient care plans, MRIs, and ambulatory clinics along with calling their doctors for orders. I was in charge of risk management and implementing patient care. I determined whether clients could be admitted to independent facility or assisted living. I talked with the families regarding their loved ones and the care needed for the family members to continue a quality of living in an independent facility. I was required to direct, administer and record the care given. I still have my nursing license currently and will renew in 2026. I also renewed all the residents’ medicine and picked them up if the pharmacy couldn’t deliver in a timely manner. When the main pharmacy was closing, I set up a meeting with the head pharmacist and worked out and shifted all my residents medicines to Walgreen because CVS made so many mistakes with my patients. I implemented 911 having the list of medicines in the freezer when the ambulance was called. I instructed the fire department to look in the freezer for their list of medicines the patients were on so when they were confused, they didn’t have to answer all the questions. I updated continually.
Nursing
I consider myself senior level in triage nursing. I’ve done it over the years many places. I also had my own company as a childbirth educator. I was licensed in Kansas and Arizona. I taught childbirth classes here in Kansas but mostly in Arizona. I taught military women for 2 years. My nursing back ground speaks for itself. I have been a nurse for 35+ years and working in the medical malpractice with attorneys. My nursing includes a background for charting, and quality control for Kansas and Missouri states. I do consider myself well versed in medical terminology, abbreviations, documentation of the medical records' legal aspect of the charting, guidelines of effective documentation, nursing law, and common documentation errors and ways to fix them.
Reporter and Advertiser
Gringo Gazette San Jose del Cabo Mexico September 2004-December-2010
Basically, in 2004 I went to Mexico to retire, but lost my money when the stock market crashed so I was hired in 2004 when I freelanced and article to the editor I wrote articles for the newspaper as a reporter and sold advertisements. I have been published over 60 times. At the same time, for 2 years, I was also writing articles for a high-end magazine called “Cabo Living” for Human-interest articles when I returned home. For the Gringo Gazette I was in charge of all my own invoices which consisted of at least 150 clients. I still have a good standing with the newspaper and magazine as a freelance writer and have a job if I ever return to San Jose del Cabo, México.
Paralegal
My paralegal experience has been in Medical Malpractice and Criminal Law. I taught nursing Liabilities and medical law at Pinnacle Institute for a year 2009-2010. I worked for RSI many years ago and then branched off to working in Miami for 2 law offices for a few years. (Carlton Fields Law Firm). I reviewed charts, subpoenaed biopsies and medical charts, chronological data, data entry. I worked for Wicker, Smith, O’Hara, McCoy, Graham and Ford, as a nurse Consultant through a temporary agency. I helped with the American Airlines lawsuit when the airline plumaged into the Everglades. I also helped data entry for the oil spillage that happened with American Oil. I don’t consider myself at a Senior Level. But because of my volunteering and taking classes recently at UMKC I consider myself well versed in criminal law, habeas corpus, appellant court, post-conviction, Rule 91, Rule 29.5, Appeals etc. I have been developing cases for over 5 years for MOI.
