Holtsville LNG Liquefaction Unit:

Replacement of a 25,000 lb. cryogenic heat Exchanger of this type, bottom heat exchanger in a vertical stack of 5, was never attempted by a utility in the United States. As the construction team leader, I was responsible for the development of the methods and procedures utilized in this replacement. The heat exchanger was successfully replaced in the summer of 1992, AT BUDGET, and is presently operating efficiently.

Northport Unit 2 Fuel Conversion:

Project Completion 10% Under Budget The work scope for the Northport Unit 2, a 385-megawatt generating Unit, focused on increasing its’ efficiency and making the unit ready for conversion from oil to gas firing. As the team engineer, I contributed mechanical and structural analysis on the construction methods and procedures that were utilized during the project. Major aspects of the project involved replacing waterwall tubing, burner corners, superheater and desuperheater piping and pendant tubing. The project was completed successfully and 10% UNDER BUDGET. Distribution Regulator Station Low Profile Vault Installation: Project Completion 7% Under Budget – New Methods Established Engineered and implemented the construction of a natural gas regulator station that utilizes a low- profile vault design with a Bilco door, never before used by KeySpan Energy Delivery of LI. This design incorporated new construction methods developed by my team and I. These methods also minimized the impact that station installation and operation had on the high vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The project was successfully completed on time and 7% under budget. Horizontal Directional Drill Networking System: Cost Saving System Development Created an information and computer system for KeySpan Energy Delivery of Long Island’s Horizontal Directional Drill Team. The system was designed to work from jobsites across Long Island, allowing the Drill Team to communicate and access information from company and industry resources. The system proved to be an asset to the Drill Team by streamlining and automating the administrative and work processes resulting in cost savings.

15 Ave. over MTA Bridge Replacement Project: Innovation This bridge incorporated a precast concrete pier and deck-type structure which prohibited the use of shielding. The conventional method for installing gas facilities on bridges was not feasible for this project. I developed new construction standards for fabricating the gas main and casing as a single package that was lifted and set in place. This also required coordination of several different KeySpan departments to ensure the installation was performed as governed by construction standards and specifications. Cost savings were realized by the General Contractor by not having to install shielding and by reducing the impact of KeySpan work on the bridge structure to just one shift. KeySpan realized a savings of $200,000 in installation costs.

Long Beach Road – High-Pressure Cast-Iron Main Replacement: Innovation This road connects the village of Long Beach to Nassau County proper, thus is a major thoroughfare on Long Island. Construction is limited because of residential and tourist traffic during the day and industrial traffic at night. The workscope required the replacement of 600’ of 12” HP CI gas main. I developed the specification for the trenchless technology that would be required and after it was awarded, implemented the construction guidelines for completing the project. The project was completed on time and at budget. Replacing the main using conventional methods would have cost KeySpan an additional $150,000.

350 psig to 99 psig Roslyn Regulator Station NL-30 Installation: Business Acumen The work scope required the connection of these transmission systems within the boundaries of an architectural landmark in the Village of Roslyn. In addition to design and engineering the station components, I prepared a comprehensive presentation of the project for the Village Board to insure permitting would be approved. Negotiations with the Village Board outlining construction plans and restoration policy were successful for KeySpan. The project was approved by the Village Board and successfully completed on time and at budget.
