Biography of

Phyllis E Parker-Bertun

Phyllis has been involved in the Health and Wellness industry since 1986, with the foundation of a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, minor in psychology. She achieved certifications from American College of Sports Medicine, Cooper Institute (CIAR), American council on Exercise GX & PT (group exercise, personal training), Pilates Powerhouse Institute, Power Pilates and Physical Mind, Yoga E-RYT 500, Zumba, Silver Sneakers and Barre. Ayurveda Health Councilor – NAMA (National Ayurvedic Medical Association).

Phyllis began her journey with personal training when it wasn't even thought of as a profession. After years of Training and observing client perform exercises with faulty body mechanics and posture, Phyllis was drawn to the Pilates method of conditioning. With an emphasis on posture, core and mechanical principles which were directly related to her college studies. Her goal was always to improve client’s function through well-defined movement. She holds certification to train on mat as well as apparatus known as the reformer, tower, chair, etc.

Phyllis’s experience comes not only from the fitness field, but her professional experience carried her over to the medical field. She worked in physical therapy where she taught back school and rehabilitative exercise to patients who were recovering from various orthopedic injury. This prompted her certification/endorsement as Orthopedic Exercise Specialist through ACE. She worked in Cardiac rehab and in a medical office of obstetrics and gynecology and supports women's health. While working for the YMCA she was asked to assist the Cancer rehab program. Then she went on to gain CETI (Cancer Exercise specialist) endorsement. Cancer is a life-changing experience, one that often needs functional coaching, yoga, meditation.

Phyllis utilized her teaching education to teach for Collin County Community College as associate faculty for nine years. She taught for the American Red Cross, CPR and first aid Then she took a management position as athletic/Fitness director at Stonebriar County club where she designed conditioning programs for golf, tennis, and general population of the members.

Phyllis Yoga Journey began with a fitness certification from SCW- Fitness in 2003 when her instructor told her to get yoga certified! From then until 2010 she studied with various people, one being Diane Long, taught through the linage of Indra Devi. In 2010 she expanded her yoga with Purple Lotus achieving RYT-200 (200-hour program). After a decade of teaching, she attained RYT 500 and now E-RYT500. Her love for yoga was heightened by her studies in eastern medicine, and influence in native American spiritual culture. She studied the work of various shamanic practitioners, as well as training in Healing Touch, she attained Reiki master, studied Heart to Heart healing.

She loves creating guided meditations in the form of a story or imagery to draw her clients to a blissful place/ finding their samadhi (bliss) during a meditation session. Her meditation is a combination of Christian, Eastern, Western philosophy with spiritual guidance using mantras, mudras, the four directions.

Physical movement, energetic healing and spiritual alignment evolved to a deeper level to heal and coach clients in a specific path. In 2018 she went through a Life Coach training course to help others find their dharma (life path/passion).

With a love for teaching, Phyllis wrote curriculum to educate others with presentations at the following events:

Fall of 2016 Dallas Mania convention “Yoga and Chakra”.

Spring of 2018- Dallas Yoga festival- Supported Yoga w/Stability Ball.

February 2020 - Bhakti festival - Yin Yoga, chakras, and meridians.

July 2021 - Holistic Festival of Life - Yin yoga for your Doshas.

"Yoga brought it all together" physical, mental, spiritual, energetic and fulfillment of one’s potential – Dharma. To fulfill her greatest desire, to teach others, with over thirty years of knowledge and experience. Phyllis currently is a YACEP (yoga alliance continuing education provider) and has written manuals for the courses.

In the process of writing the manual for 200/300 hr. teacher training, she found a need to further her studies with Ayurveda, the sister science of Yoga. Ayurveda school is a 600-hour program that dives deeper into psych-social aspects, dietary needs with emphasis on prevention of disease. As an Ayurveda Health counselor, Phyllis created educational workshops for lay people, teachers and medical professionals. The workshops begin with 1. “Ayurveda Fundamentals”, 2. Deeper Dive: Sub Doshas, disease, herbs. 3. Women: Menses’ to Menopause, 4. Marma points in Asana. 5. Manas the mind & Meditation.
