Early on analyzed Client’s hardware needs and supplied / procured and setup (either myself and or coordinated) all Dell Server hardware (servers and disk arrays). This has swelled to about 6 Dell PowerEdge Servers and 2 drive arrays over the years) to support the Clients growing business and IT demands. More specifically, I have ported and upgraded Oracle and Redhat Linux to a new Dell 2950 production server used to run the company’s main application (a shipping & warehouse management database and application server).
Upgraded from Oracle 8i to 10g R2 RAC (standard edition) and upgraded Redhat Linux 2.1 AS to Redhat Linux 4.3 AS and setup RMAN database backups.
2014 & 2016 – Implemented and supported Oracle Data Guard for DR and some reporting using Oracle 11gR2 standby snapshots. Upgraded RHEL to 6.6 and then to 6.8. Installed and administrated MySQL databases for small proprietary DBs on RHEL 6.6.

Pfizer & Quest Diagnostics (Via Tata Consultancy Services –TCS) July 2018 – March 2022
Senior Systems Engineer/Cloud Solution Architect
Supporting Quest Diagnostics for TCS – Feb 2022 – March 2022
Performing data warehousing development and DBA activities using Snowflake and Matillion (ETL), Snowpipe, with GitLab Flow CI/CD.
Working in the Life Sciences division of Pfizer for TCS – July 2018 thru Feb 2022
Nov 2021 to Jan 2022 - Transferred within Pfizer to Cloud Operations group on the high visibility ModFac project in the TCS Hyper-Care group. Project involved migration of about 2700 on-premise servers to AWS within a very aggressive timeline (3-4 months) – lift and shift to EC2. My primary responsibility is development of automation to minimize time and effort required for pre and post server migration tasks & reducing time/effort and allow scaling to multiple 100s of servers migrated per week. Automating all aspects of pre and post migration support using SQL (query CMDB/Oracle DW), Python/AWS Boto3 to query AWS, & Ansible, Bash and PowerShell with other mostly command line versions of stack tooling to script / automate.
September 2018 through Oct 2021, providing database, application, and infrastructure development support in the AWS cloud and on premise, mainly in the AWS Big Data and Data Warehousing space (Redshift & Snowflake).
Built an array of applications & workflow processes to support TCS / Pfizer Data Warehousing:
Automated Provisioning of End Users with the correct permissions and notification of provisioning (Python, AWS Boto3, Selenium API)
Designed and implemented self-operating Workload Management and Cluster Performance Monitoring, Automated Corrective Actions and Alerting (with extended usage history), (Python, AWS Boto3, Redshift Views, EC2, SNS)
Implemented simple and cost-effective rollout of a Responsive Data Archival and Restoration Solution to Manage & Minimize Archived Data Cost (Python, Open-Source API, S3 Life Cycling & Event Notifications)
On-Boarding New Data Sets & Vendors (Workflow Process Development, & Mentoring)
Constantly Improving Cost Benefit - By Implementing New Approaches, Node Types, Resizing, and Feature Rollout
Played significant role (Primary Snowflake DBA/Architect for RWD) in multiple migrations to Snowflake and day to day Snowflake administration and pipeline development,
In the Data Warehouse vertical line of business (LOB), I supported several 100+TB Snowflake and Redshift clusters, of various sizes up to 40xDC2.8xlarge and later RA3.16xlarge clusters Redshift, in production and non-prod environments, to provide easily accessible, scalable, and secure results.
In the OLTP vertical LOB I was involved in porting mainly Oracle on-prem to EC2 (Oracle, or Postgres) Amazon Linux and migrating some Oracle to RDS (Postgres, and Oracle) depending on what the Application team chose as their target environment.
Was a primary contributor in the development and the support of large-scale Big Data pipelines into cloud-based Data Warehouses (Redshift and Snowflake) covering the entire process flow from provisioning ingress mechanisms (S3 etc.), ingesting/ETL/ELT into DW, AWS Lake Formation, DW warehouse production support, and security and cost-effective archiving multi-TB/day for the Read World Evidence domain.
Developed EMR based process that pre-processed and created new aggregated datasets, for some of Pfizer’s RWD data using Python, PySpark, EMRFS & S3DistCp.
Nov 2020 - We/I migrated from a 36xdc2.8xlarge AWS Redshift cluster to 10xRA3.16xlarge Redshift cluster now in production, saving the Client over $250k in annual license fees, with near equivalent performance increase storage scalability. Involved in rigorous benchmarking prior to migration to contrast and compare Redshift RA3 to Snowflake on a large 100TB+ active data warehouse. Although Snowflake tried to be competitive, in the end Redshift’s more mature product allowed much easier cost controls, and a significant advantage in compute resources per dollar. Lower demand, less active data warehouses would have been more favorable to Snowflake.
Developed an array of Python (using, selenium API for automation, boto3, and PySpark for statistical analysis), based programs, automation for provisioning, and governance tools to make the overall administration process more efficient, faster, less error prone and less tedious.
Substantial Snowflake and Redshift workload management and alerting experience enhanced both Snowflake’s and Redshift’s (WLM & QM Rules) built-in workload management capabilities substantially.
Considerable experience cloning, restoring, resizing, changing node types using both AWS CLI and AWS RDS & Redshift console, and using RDS, Snowflake Time Travel / Zero-Copy Clones etc.
Designed, and developed, automated ticketing process and account provisioning using Python & Selenium API for provisioning new, existing user accounts and privileges, streamlined the process by 80%. Used both Micro Focus Service Manager and JIRA for incident, request catalog, change requests, and CMDB/CI (ITSM functions). 2021 rewrote automation in Java / Selenium API for HP SC upgrade to Micro Focus Service Manager (ITIL request catalog tickets).
Responsible for S3 allocations/provisioning, IAM account provisioning, and partner sharing. Heavy exposure to policies, roles, encryption etc. at all AWS levels. Assisted, documented processes, and mentored people with access challenges (AWS CLI, S3 Browser, SQLWorkBench, Pg/SQL, Python/Boto3/psycopg2 and others).
Implemented Redshift Spectrum external tables together with AWS Glue to archive data out of Redshift to S3 – allowing limited accessibility after archive.
Delivered written and verbal analysis of many of the many projects & tasks I was involved with – Conducted Monthly Readout via Webex and provided substantive written results and statuses.
Created extensive shared library of “how to” documents and on demand SQL scripts for a large # of administrative tasks.
2021 Designed and implemented a solution to control S3 archive costs via S3 Life Cycles, Glacier and restore script templates for data archives in S3 that was often restored from S3 Glacier to the target database environment – saving the Client big money / $$$ per year over standard S3 storage class.

Extensive Redshift tuning of clusters / slice management, table sort key and distribution analysis and implementation. Used Redshift WLM to manage queue and execution queues. Provisioned dev, QA and production AWS & Redshift environments (authentication and authorization) including networking and security definitions by working with corporate networking and security teams. Extensive use of Python and Bash for scripting.
