Advanced product design and manufacturing engineering
Desire employment in a Project Management / Engineering role utilizing my management and engineering experience from cost estimating and quoting through design and verification of production components and tooling. With the capability of leading design teams utilizing design and analysis software such as NX, FEA structural analysis (FEMAP/NASTRAN), Moldflow analysis, and utilizing DFM (Design for Manufacturing) methods. Proficient in all of the above software. In addition, I have designed many plastic and metallic components for the automotive, industrial, and consumer industries. I have a proven history over the last 25 years for a variety of customers.
CAREER EXPERIENCE:
Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Rivian Automotive Inc., Plymouth, MI 48170 2020 – 10/2024 Assigned to evaluate product designs for manufacturing feasibility (DFM - Design for Manufacturing). I conducted product feasibility analysis of all phases of the design, from concept studies to production tool feasibility. As the Moldflow Subject Matter Expert (SME) I conducted mold filling analysis for all plastic products. I have produced hundreds of product feasibility studies including over 500 mold filling analysis’ on a variety of interior and exterior automotive products.
Principle Engineer - Detroit Design Engineering LLC, Troy, MI 48083 1998 – 2020 20 years of Product engineering from estimating and quoting projects to designing the products using NX, analyzing them for structural integrity using FEMAP/Nastran, making design modifications, re-analyzed, and conducting Moldflow analysis’ to optimize the tool, while using DFM (Design for Manufacturing) methods. I operated all software listed above to expedite those designs for manufacturing.
Engineering Manager / Engineer- Autoport Corporation LLC, Oxford, MI 48371 1994 - 1998 Responsible for estimating, quoting, engineering, and design of outside rearview mirror programs. Designing in NX, and releasing the tool data for toolmakers to produce pre-prototype, prototype, and production tools. Used value analysis and finite element analysis to refine the product prior to tool data releases. This method reduced tool changes to below 1% of tool cost, and reduced time from first shots to PPAP approval to 8 weeks. Followed product through the development phase and into production.
Engineering Manager / Engineer – Britax Inc., Marysville, MI 48044 1991 – 1994 Responsible for design and development of seven major mirror programs for GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Managed 10 engineers and 14 designers. Estimated/Quoted the design, tooling costs, manpower allocation, and budget management. As well as functioned as the Lead Engineer for development of the mirror systems.
Senior Design Engineer – Kingston Warren Inc., Troy, MI 48083 1989- 1991 Responsible for design and engineering of Glass run Channel Door Systems extrusions and corner molds. Duties included leading a design crew of 9 designers to design and engineer the product, create all design release of CAD data, and drawing releases using CGS design software.
Systems Engineer - United Technologies Automotive Inc., Troy MI 1987 -1989 Co-invented, engineered and supervised the design of the first snap-in modular headliner, included initial design concepts, clay room coordination, design staff interaction, prototype design, evaluation and testing for material selection. Also value engineered the design and material selection for cost reductions. I presently have 8 automotive related patents on file with the U.S. Patent Office.
Project Engineer – General Motors Corp. Troy, MI 1986 – 1987 Responsilbities included new product design and product implementation into production vehicles; acoustical vehicle development of noise reduction materials and vehicle evaluation to determine performance; manpower forecast for design needs; coordinated cost reduction proposals, engineering changes and assembly plant installation
