Resume:

Hello, my name is John.

I am married to my fantastic & wonderful wife Linda and we have been together since high school. We have one daughter who now has children of her own. Since we could only have one child, over the years we hosted over 50 foreign exchange students from many countries around the World.

My employment history has included a variety of responsibilities including purchasing materials and component parts for the manufacturing of musical instruments and scheduled production of the same in 2 different facilities. I also supervised both receiving and stockroom departments working with a team of seven very knowledgeable individuals.

Working with the IT departments I have been involved with the implementation of computer systems at 2 different manufacturing companies and designing the layout of the associated data collection terminals in one of the companies. I was also responsible for maintaining the engineering data base of product structures and route sheets.

Working with the IT and customer service departments of the manufacturing companies I was very involved in determining what parts could/should be made available as repair parts along with what the standard package of each part number should be.

While working as a substitute teacher the most I can say is that I learned a new respect for today’s teachers and what they have to deal with. I did have one school request that I accept an assignment for the balance of the school year. I appreciated the request, but I could not accept as I did not want to commit as I was looking for a full-time position.

Working as a truck driver making local deliveries I generally made my own schedules and routes based on due dates and customer locations with an occasional exception. When warranted, I also built crates and assembled boxes for shipment via common carrier. I also created an Excel spreadsheet that could be used to determine crate or box sizes to use for a shipment based on product size, shape, and quantity.

As the dispatch office manager, I worked with the company programmer to develop a system of maintaining a reference of vehicle locations in the storage lot and the associated document package location in the office. We changed the procedure of how we processed required documentation for dispatching trucks at my suggestion to make it more efficient. On one occasion, this allowed us to process the dispatch of 5 trucks in 7 minutes. Unfortunately, at times it was necessary for me to terminate a shuttle driver for cause.

Shortly after I took the merchandise coordinator position the sole supplier of merchandise we distributed went on strike. This occurred before the warehouse was fully stocked. Our mandate was orders had to be shipped within 10 days and had to be shipped 85% complete. The company used overnight mail between Elkhart and New York to consolidate customer orders on a warehouse pick sheet. This process also allocated inventory which resulted in our not being able to ship many orders at 85%. By basically ignoring the allocation system (with my supervisor’s approval) I was able to devise a method by which we were able to ship many orders at the 85% complete level.

With many of the positions I have held I have found at times it was necessary to “think outside of the box” to find a solution to a problem. Several of the positions required me to be responsible for the expenditure of funds either directly, or indirectly. Most positions allowed me to work independently with little or no direct supervision.

In an additional reference to hosting the foreign exchange students, for 14 years my wife and I participated in planning and executing a weeklong Florida bus trip for them and their host siblings of high school age. Our largest group included 5 tour buses with 245 students participating. I was the trip director for several of the last trips.

Thank you for your consideration.

John
