Sierra Development, LLC – Los Angelis, CA 2020 - 2024 Chief Data Scientist
Sierra is a private company owned by Riverside Company and was created by former Oracle CMO, and Riverside Company Managing Partner John Kish. Sierra is dedicated by charter through the SEC to provide offshore information technology services exclusively to Riverside Company’s Mini-Cap Fund portfolio of companies. John Kish later created a vertical division under Sierra for Data Science / AI research and services. Selected by John as the US based Chief Data Scientist, running an offshore team in India. Responsible for research in business intelligence, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for portfolio of private equity companies. Responsibilities:
Selected and built an offshore Data Science/AI team in India
Provided leadership and engineering management for all projects
Engaged portfolio companies to analyze business models, software products, and database structures
Proposed possible business intelligence and/or artificial intelligence implementations which provided an increased return on investment
Created presentations for senior management to review potential solutions
Developed proof-of concept prototypes for integration into portfolio companies AI Use Case: Cannabis industry client with 3 integrated verticals: Farming of cannabis; Producers for edibles products; and, Dispensaries to sell the cannabis and edibles. When the company acquired or created any of these verticals, legal teams had to create standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on State, County and City code. In 2002 the company was billed over 10,000 hours to create SOPs. My team created a tool utilizing Generative AI to select the type of business, State, County and City and generated the SOP within minutes. The results were verified by subject matter experts for accuracy, while the time required to generate the SOP was significantly reduced, resulting in saving tens of thousands of legal billing hours.
EXPERIENCE (Continued)
Clinical Efficiency Systems, LLC 2009-2016
Senior Engineer – Data Scientist - Shareholder
Sole software engineer client’s first web-based product, EDLog. EDLog: Simple, real-time communication between an Emergency Department’s (ED) clinicians and other providers was a tremendous challenge. Some situations warrant a direct phone call, but connecting via phone is difficult for busy providers. At the other end of the spectrum, it took days for the ED EMRs to deliver multi-page faxes to primary providers. Web-based EDLog reduced the communication gap between phone calls and faxes which increased the ED’s efficiency, care quality and performance. EDLog was successfully deployed in 6 of the largest Health Care America (HCA) Emergency Departments. After the successful POC, enabling EDLog for smartphones and tablets would drive increased acceptance of the product across other departments. To develop the mobile ecosystem, I led the creation of a new platform, mQuiq, by hiring an offshore team of developers. My team and I created mQuiq from scratch.
mQuiq: Software-as-a-service (SaaS) HIPAA compliant enterprise clinical communication platform provides secure messaging and event driven notifications coupled with workgroup coordination, communication and escalation capabilities. The solution delivers market leading multiplatform applications for all standard web browsers, native iOS and Android clients. Led the integration and SRE services:
VMWare • Amazon Web Services • Github • Ping Identity Federated Identity Bridge • Jaspersoft BI • Sendgrid • Twillio • Zendesk. Created Business Intelligence reports for Hospital Administrators. Used an agile software development approach centered on Atlassian’s JIRA for project management. Led Software Engineering teams based in India and Portugal. Information Protection Solutions of America (IPSA) 2004 – 2010 Senior Solution Architect and Engineer
IPSA was formed by a coalition of independent NAID-Certified information destruction business owners. Individually, these mom- and-pop businesses could not compete for national contracts. Aligning over 150 businesses, with over 500 service locations, provided the means for negotiating nationwide coverage contracts such as “The Limited” and “Gap” brands. Problem: Bin deployment and service events were being reported monthly by over 150 member companies, servicing thousands of locations, using spreadsheets. The billing process and accounting tasks were overwhelming and tedious. Solution: Emerald Technologies created a solution to automate new business model processes. Using Microsoft C# over .NET and MSSQL, created two SaaS web applications (IPSA Operations and Members portals). The Operations portal provided IPSA administrators with the tools necessary to configure new customer contract terms, store location specific information, and service scheduling. Data analytics code created on a Microsoft Reporting Services server, provided business intelligence and service records which were imported into accounting software for invoicing. The Member’s portal provided IPSA member businesses with a means to confirm new deployments and enter subsequent service event parameters.
Cintas, a competitor, acquired IPSA in 2009. Cintas duplicated IPSA’s enterprise management system created by Emerald Technologies and successfully sunset the Cintas system in 2010. TECHNOLOGIES
