I lead the Pittsburgh division at the Pittsburgh International Airport cleaning for Southwest airlines. I am in charge of staffing, payroll, billing, profit and loss reports, maintaining current training records, scheduling, and keeping our client, Southwest airlines happy. We are responsible for stripping and waxing the floor, carpet care, maintaining facilities, aircraft cleaning, making sure aircrafts interior was done on time, and to the customers satisfaction so it didn't cause any delays. Also my crew, myself included, is in charge of doing a security sweep before we closed the aircraft down. It didn't matter if I was already there for an eight hour shift, at my son’s football game or at an anniversary dinner. If I get a call about a situation that needed me there I went to handle it. I worked holidays, weekends, and my children’s birthday(s). Being an airport there was always change. This change could've been due to weather, breakdowns, and/or a disruptive passenger. This would force our turns and/or terminators to be late. If the weather was too bad at other airports they would send their terminating aircrafts to Pittsburgh and then we would clean and security sweep the extra aircraft. We always had terminated aircrafts hooked to gates that didn't have access to an open terminal. When it was time to clean them we took an elevator to the tarmac and walked, with our supplies, to our aircraft. It didn't matter if it was raining, snowing, sleeting, wind storm, or humid. We were expected to do a job and that’s just what we did. I am used to running a crew to follow a strict time limit and still maintaining the integrity of our work, and also being audited by several departments from Southwest and passing these audits for aircraft appearance. I have also received a commendation letter from the head of TSA at PIT saying that in her 18+ years in the FAA/TSA field she has never had a better experience auditing a crew than she has mine as we were very efficient and thorough.

I started out as an aircraft appearance cleaner for Southwest Airlines. Cleaning the aircraft as they terminated each night. We had to clean them to a specific standard that was audited every day. I then got moved to facilities cleaner and had to maintain the appearance of Southwest Ticket counters, gates, breakrooms etc. everyday. I had to work under a time limit and be able to keep the quality of my work at top notch. I was then promoted to assistant manager, and assisted with the hiring and write ups and auditing of the cleaning. Also making sure that our customer was happy with our job performance.
