Position: Senior Outpatient Coder
Serves as a clinical coding subject matter expert and utilizes critical thinking to analyze and evaluate documentation issues with consultation from the medical and clinical staff, and clinical documentation staff specialist as needed. Identifies and assigns ICD-10 diagnostic codes and CPT-4 procedure codes to outpatient (i.e., diagnostic, wound center, L&D), ambulatory surgery and observation visits for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance with federal and state regulations.
Monitors daily work to ensure timely billing.
Maintain accuracy at a rate of 95% and above; maintains productivity of 95% or above.
Communicates with various departments within the hospital regarding billing and registration issues.
Comply with AHIMA standards of ethical coding and coding compliance guidelines.
Utilize LCD to clear any edit issues so that the claim is clean going out the door. Query the physicians for clarification when necessary.
Possess strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines; work effectively under pressure; good customer service skills; ability to problem solve with minimal supervision. Utilize all the tools provided such as the current 2025 cpt book; ICD-10-CM Expert.
Experience utilizing EPIC, 3M Encoder, HDM
Education: Obtained Coding Certificate from Baltimore County Community College in 2004.
