Removed corrosion, tar and paint by sandblasting and the use of wire wheels and sanding wheels. Ust other chemicals such as alkali and hydrochloric acid to remove corrosion, tar and paint from parts of high metal surface finish. Refurbished weapons, parts and equipment by chemically treating the metal to a high quality standard (parkarize). Reassembled subassemblies and major components and install/incorporate into artillery, turrets, and small arms to complete weapons systems. Used hydraulic and air pressure-gages, circuit testers (multi-meters) and precision instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, thickness and star gages and torque wrenches. Prepared all equipment for final inspections by performing operational evaluations of electrical, mechanical, pneumatics and hydraulic systems. Referred to technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, modification instructions and other technical publications to locate parts, verify torque, dimensions and tolerances are within specifications. Artillery M198 rebuild and installed subassemblies such as hydraulic (brake calipers, traversing units, hydraulic piping, recoil systems), mechanical (wheel bearings, axles, torque limiters, elevation screws, traversing and elevation mechanisms, parking brakes, friction clutches and breech mechanisms). Performed operational checks and final adjustments after overhaul, prepairs and installation.
