PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

geometry teacher and tutor in South Florida Jupiter, Stuart, West
Palm Beach area. I have also contributed math and science items for
ACT and SAT exams and scored math tests online.
2007-2015 Quantico Middle/High School. I designed and taught lessons,
designed and supervised laboratory experiments, designed tests and
quizzes in subject areas for the dependent students living on
Quantico Marine Base in Virginia. Subjects taught included AP
Calculus, physics, chemistry, sixth grade science and math.
1999 to 2007 Chemistry and AP Chemistry teacher. As a teacher for the Department of Defense Education Activity, ( DoDEA), I taught a
mathematical approach to regular chemistry and college level chemistry (AP). I designed lessons, supervise laboratory work, designed tests and quizzes, and instruct classes for American and foreign students from NATO countries at the high school located at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (S.H.A.P.E.).
I have been a chairperson for the school improvement plan for math
and science as well as a coach for track and field and the Chemical Hygiene Officer for the school.
1995 to 1999 Physics, Calculus, chemistry, and Algebra teacher at Osan American
High School, Korea. This was also a DoDEA teaching position.
I was the computer chairperson, distance learning coordinator,
and a SAC ( School Advisory Committee) representative.
1993 to 1995 General Science, math analysis, physics, and algebra teacher at
Taegu American School in Taegu, Korea. This was my first DoDEA teaching position. After I transferred to Osan American High School, I taught algebra 2, physics, AP Calculus, and chemistry. I was also coordinator for distance learning, and Computer Committee chairperson.
1986 to 1992 Geometry, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Computer Applications
teacher at Suncoast Magnet School. I taught a diverse group
of students from many ethnic and social backgrounds. I also
designed and taught a summer enrichment program for students
preparing to enter the magnet school.
1984 to 1986 I was a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer teacher of science, math and
English in a rural village school in upcountry Kenya. I taught a
program designed to fit the English System in a Kenyan context.
In addition to teaching a large number of courses, I carried out a
number of community development programs.
1976 to 1984 I was an instrument technician and an inspector for the Miami Dade
Water and Sewer Authority land surveying office. I did technical
field work including mathematical calculations and supervision of
the crew on an as-needed basis.
EDUCATION MA in progress. I have over 30 semester hours at the graduate level
from Florida Atlantic University and the University of Maryland mostly in education with one course in computer systems architecture.
My BA Degree is in Sociology/Anthropology with over 40 hours beyond graduation in mathematics and computer sciences at Florida International University and University of Florida.
My AA degree is in pre-engineering from Miami Dade Jr. College studying physics, calculus, and chemistry.
COMPUTERS
I have taken a variety of additional courses in computer languages
and applications including C++, Pascal, Fortran and Assembler,
and AutoCAD, SQL, Website Design, JavaScript . I am
continuing to update my computer skills.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
I live and work in Hobe Sound, Florida and am a patented inventor
and short story writer in my spare time. I am a non-smoker, married,
and enjoy long distance running. I have over 45 hours of in-flight
training toward my pilot’s license. My teaching certification includes
secondary mathematics, physics, chemistry, AP Chemistry, and AP
Calculus, and computers.
