Key Accomplishments:

Established the first reserve fund in the organization's history. Current balance of over $250,000.

2014 - 2020 Boys & Girls Clubs of the Central Coast Santa Maria, CA

Chief Executive Officer Primary Objective: Growth

Left position after formulating a planned exit strategy in coordination with the Board of Directors. Shortly after my 20th anniversary working with Boys & Girls Clubs, I was inspired to shift my career focus. The global pandemic brought about many challenges for us all. The most impactful for me was losing my mother. Leaving my previous role allowed me time to grieve that loss and carry out her final wishes.

Created and retained relationships with corporate & individual donors contributing $10,000 or more annually. In 2014, we were raising approximately $114,000 annually from our top donors. At the end of 2019, we raised almost $1,000,000 from our top donors.

Hired and managed a contractor for grant writing. In 2014, we handled all grant writing internally and budgeted $625,000 annually from various grant resources. In 2020, we budgeted $1.25 million from various grant resources and proudly exceeded our grant revenue budget prior to my departure.

Increased annual operating budget of $1.3 million in 2014 to $3.9 million in 2020 (an increase of $2.6 million in 6 years).

In 2014, I managed a staff of 30 and operated 3 clubsites. At the end of my role, I supervised a staff of 100+ in various organizational departments including finance, office management, operations, and resource development. We operated 13 locations in 2 Counties on the Central Coast of California.

Manage public housing partnership where we operated 1 clubsite.

Oversee board adopted strategic plan inclusive of completing a merger with a neighboring organization. Click here to watch the merger announcement from 2019 (voiceover work by me).

2010 - 2014 Boys & Girls Clubs of the MS Delta Yazoo City, MS

Chief Executive Officer Primary Objective: Sustainability

Left position to assume role of CEO for what was then known as Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Maria Valley. My younger brother relocated to California and I wanted to maintain my close relationship to him. In addition, my son was transitioning into high school and the move coordinated with that transition.

Created an organizational sustainability plan in a post-recession economy to ensure ongoing programs and services throughout a 6 County service region in the most impoverished State in the US.

Created a Board adopted resource development plan inclusive of a previously non-existent events strategy to implement 3 major fundraising events annually including: Steak & Burger, Moonlight & Mistletoe, and an Annual Golf Tournament. The addition of these events generated over $150,000 in new revenue in year 1.

To consolidate operations and realize economies of scale throughout the region, I organized and closed a merger between two organizations operating within the same service area. This resulted in the addition of 1 clubsite and allowed us to move our executive offices to a centralized location within the service area.

Completely restructured staffing model based on best practices within the youth development industry and implemented a professional development plan to ensure success at every level of employment (from part time program leaders to management).

Implemented a public relations and marketing strategy utilizing regional media relationships. This was inclusive of airing weekly televised updates via regional news stations and issuing press releases for “good news” articles in regionally focused newspapers.

2005 - 2010 Boys & Girls Clubs of El Camino Reál Natchitoches, LA

Chief Executive Officer Primary Objective: Capacity Building

Left position to assume the role of CEO for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta. This was a planned transition as I had reached the salary cap offered for my position at Boys & Girls Clubs of El Camino Reál.

Established relationships with government officials (for funding resources) and two Housing Authorities to open new clubsites in public housing complexes in two Cities. This allowed for an additional 300 youth to benefit from our programs & services.

Created a government relations and advocacy plan and rallied support for state grant allocations via the State of Louisiana.

Created a responsibility matrix and Board recruitment plan to attract and retain high quality Board members.

Created organization’s first formally adopted personnel, safety, fiscal management, and reserve fund policies.

2000 - 2005 Boys & Girls Club of Lansing Lansing, MI

VP, Finance & Admin. Primary Objective: Financial Management

Left position to assume the role of CEO for Boys & Girls Clubs of El Camino Reál. The only position above the VP role within that organization’s structure was the CEO position. The CEO for that organization is still serving in that role today.

Maintained accounting records with generally accepted accounting principles serving as the organization’s first in-house VP of Finance.

Created a cash flow forecast model to adequately track cash needs on a monthly basis. In addition, I created internal financial statements utilizing desktop software (they previously paid an CPA).

Prepared organization’s annual operating budget in conjunction with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.

Oversee annual external financial audit as mandated by BGCA.

Manage human resource objectives including payroll, personnel file maintenance, and personnel policies and procedures.

Designing and updating the organization’s first website.
