Notice to Drivers Logging Meal Stops
The Department of Transportation regulations regarding the logging of meals. coffee breaks and other personal routine stops, are to be logged "On Duty", unless the following factor exists: 1. Equipment must be legally parked and properly secured against accidental rollaway. 2. The driver must have been relieved of all duty and all responsibility for the care and custody of the vehicle, it's accessories and any cargo or passengers it may be carrying. 3. The duration of the driver's relief from duty must be a definite period of time, which is of sufficient duration to insure that the accumulated fatigue resulting from operating a commercial vehicle will be significantly reduced. The duration of your relief shall not be less than 30 minutes. (It is presumed that a rest period of less than ten minutes is insufficient to achieve a substantial reduction in fatigue). 4. The fact that the driver has been relieved from duty and the duration of relief from duty, must have been made known to the driver in written instructions from the employer and given to the driver prior to departure.
This NOTICE TO DRIVERS incorporates all of the above-mentioned requirements to make it possible for you to log meals, coffee breaks, and other en-route stops on "Off Duty". It is ABSOLUTELY necessary that a copy of this authorization be kept in your equipment at all times. If an official stops you and your daily log is checked, you will be subject to a violation if your meals and breaks are logged as "Off Duty" and you cannot prove the above notification. Signature:
