Preceptorship
Under the guidance of Dr. Donald Tynes (Board member of Wayne State University), I assisted in transporting patients with peripheral arterial disease from Western Michigan to Detroit Medical Center for revascularization treatment. During this preceptorship I observed the surgical procedures performed by Mahir Elder, M.D. (cardiologist and clinical professor of medicine at Wayne State University) and his PERT team (Pulmonary Embolism Response Team) in which a catheter tube is maneuvered deep inside the pulmonary artery close to the blood clot. The cardiologist would break up the clotted blood with ultrasound and inject anticlot medications.
