Prior to that, I have worked in KAHRAMAA-Qatar for 16+ years as KCT-Commissioning Engineer for HV-EHV S/STNS and subsequently promoted to Commissioning In Charge and Grid Control Engineer in NCC Qatar. I have commissioned almost 45 HV/EHV S/STN in KAHRAMAA from Phase VII TO Phase-XIII and was responsible for commissioning of majority Sub-station in RAS LAFFAN AREA. I was deeply associated during interfacing point of KAHRAMAA and various Bulk consumer like QP, RASGAS, RGPC, RLPC, RLF1, RLF 2, RLF 3, Ras Girtas Power Corporation, QP-Halul in Ras Laffan, Qatar Solar Technology etc. I have both authorization to issue various work permits in Kahramaa and also approve them as I have successfully cleared both Authorization tests.

Prior to that, I have worked with ABB-Kuwait as Head of Services for 03 years and with ABB-India as Commissioning Manager (Head) for 12 years. During this period, my main responsibility was to Plan, follow up, co-ordinate with clients, Consultants and various sub-Contractors and finally direct the team from cold commissioning to energization and handover of various HV/ EHV s/stns In India and Kuwait.

During my 31 years career period, I have worked nearly 25 years in Commissioning field of HV-EHV Sub-station & Protection and Sub-station Automation field, In addition, I have worked approx.. 03 years in Engineering & Project Management field and remaining period in National Control Centre (NCC) as Commissioning in charge and System Control Engineer for operation and maintenance of Qatar’s National grid, GCCIA grid, Issue of all types of Work Permits, Generation and Load Flow control, Grid voltage and frequency control of Qatar National Grid etc.

Remarkable Achievements in Qatar and Kuwait oil sectors:-

A] QATAR PETROLEUM – QP HALUL ISLAND

World's 2nd largest (110KM) Sub-Sea underground 132KV Cable network was commissioned by me in the year 2018-19 for supplying power from Kahramaa QP-Halul s/stn to QP Halul Island at RasLaffan area. I was fully associated with Engineering upto final commissioning of this unique s/stn. The major challenges were to control over Voltages developed in the sub-sea cable due to the high MVAR generated by the cable. To resolve all, it was decided to install 220KV 1-POLE break GIS along with the installation of PSD devices (PHASE SYNCHRONING DEVICE) for controlling the 132KV line between the 02 s/stns. In addition, 02 nos 60MVAR Line reactors are also provided at both ends of the line to consume high MVAR generated by the cable. Finally, Power Factor Correction equipment was required at both ends for a smooth supply of Power to QP-HALUL Island.

B] KUWAIT NATIONAL PETROLEUM COMPANY (KNPC-KUWAIT)

On joining ABB Kuwait, I got an unique project to design, get approval from KNPC-Kuwait, develop Proto-type and on satisfactory simulation tests of the same, commission an Auto and Manual Change over Scheme on a live 11KV Incomer s/stns from which power was feeding to its process. Any maloperation during the commissioning of a newly developed system on a live Incomer Feeder could cause a huge loss in the production of oil. During design and Engineering, I used Numerical relay type CAP 505 and developed logic in it based on Customer requirements. The great challenges were to work in live incomer feeders and implement a new system in it which was not existing before. It took nearly 06 months to complete the entire task. Subsequently, my ex-Organization ABB-Kuwait had received similar orders for all of their Incomer feeder s/stns.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS in HV/EHV SUB-STATION :

Almost 80 sub-stations (11 KV to 400 KV) have been commissioned by me over last 27 years in KAHRAMAA-Qatar, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Kuwait and thus, interacted deeply with several Multinational Contractors, Consultants, all project managers, Design engineers, National control centre, Operation and maintenance team, Technical affair project team and State Electricity Boards of various Countries and States.

First ever ‘One and half Breaker’ scheme was introduced in Kahramaa 400kv s/stn(Qatar) in the year 2013 where I was deeply involved in preparation of technical specification, technical workshop, design review meeting, pre-commissioning testing, commissioning and commissioned the system successfully. SOM (System operation Memorandum) for this new one and half Breaker scheme was prepared and uploaded to our SOM book.

Commissioned successfully first ever 400KV Gulf Grid (GCCIA) PROJECT in the year 2014 where Qatar Grid is connected to Saudi Arabia Grid with 400kv Double circuit lines passing through 400kv LZS-KM S/stn. It was a great challenge to match Qatar standard with Saudi Arabia and GCCIA standard however, we could find out the solution and implemented successfully.

World 2nd longest (110 km) 132kv double circuit cable network between QP-Halul-Qatar (RAS LAFFAN ONSHORE) and Halul Island (Offshore) was successfully commissioned by me. It was one of the toughest challenges I have ever met and successfully executed. There are several additional design requirements came up during Design review Pre-commissioning tests and post commissioning of the s/stn which are not common in similar voltage level however, resolved all issues successfully.

220kv QSTEC (Qatar Solar Technology in Ras Laffan) s/stn was commissioned by me.

Interviewed several engineers of contractors and Consultants in Qatar for their Field Authorization test and ensured engineers are well competent to Kahramaa safety norms and system knowledge.

MY ADDITIONAL STRENGTH FOR THIS VACANCY:

Being long association with KAHRAMAA Electricity Transmission and System Control Department ( NCC) for the last 16 years and specially in the Kahramaa commissioning team for testing, commissioning of E&I sector of HV/EHV s/stns from Ph-VII to Ph-XIII ( almost 130 s/stns added in KM network during this period), I had various interactions with major Stakeholders and specially with KAHRAMAA various Departments like Project, NCC, Protection, O&M, Cable, OHL, Telecom, SCADA, Operational Planning and System Planning group, several Consultants and Contractors who were associated with KM during various phases of execution work. As I have handled major OEM products of E&I sector, I expect that most of the E&I equipment which will be installed in the forthcoming S/Stns are known to me and that will help me to resolve issues quickly. My experience as a Project Manager will help me to control cost and Schedule constraints. I am well experienced on KM safety and Permit related requirements, KAHRAMAA NOSP related all requirements, Contract closing activities etc. I have received double Authorization on HV/EHV network Switching of KM network upto 400 KV. So, any interaction with Kahramaa during external interface period, I feel I can contribute a lot to my new Organization and may settle majority issues related to work with KHARAMAA at the earliest possible time.

CAREER HISTORY

HEAD OF Testing and Commissioning for 4.50 GW renewable Energy in NEOM

Joined with L&T Saudi Arabia at NEOM Project in July’24 as a Head of Testing & Commissioning of 4.50 GW renewable sources which will be used for production of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia. The project consists of 2.90GW Solar Plant, 1,60 GW Wind Plant, Various s/stsns from 380 kv upto 33 KV, EPMS System, Multiple SCADAs, Multiple SAS Systems, PPC, STATCOM( Static Var Compensator), BESS ( Battery energy storage systems) and final integration with Saudi Electric company. I am reporting to General Manager of L&T and my Customer is a JV among NGHC, AP-USA and AQUA PARC of Saudi Arabia. Almost 45 inhouse Engineers, Senior Engineers, Commissioning Managers, Senior Managers are reporting to me from L&T and also handling more than 100 Sub-contractors Engineers.

Systems Control Engineer (NCC)– KAHRAMAA, Qatar ( 2020 to July’2024)

Transferred from KAHRAMAA Electricity Transmission department to KM-System Control department (NCC,National Control Centre) in July’2020.

Key responsibilities holding in CS departments are:-

Switching, operation, maintaining, controlling, releasing, restoration of Qatar’s entire Electrical Networks ( 400 KV to 11 KV).

Issue all types of work permits and other safety documents from NCC to accomplish work in KAHRAMAA network and Bulk-Consumer network.

Maintenance and trouble shooting of entire KM EHV network is one of the prime responsibilities of Control System Engineer.

Co-ordinate with QEWC & PP power plants and control the load flow of KM-EHV Systems.

Working as a Commissioning In Charge for reviewing and approving Pre-commissioning Test formats, test reports, Preparation of switching procedure and commissioning of all new HV and EHV S/STNS and Power Plants.

Short circuit analysis, Load flow analysis, Safety precaution review for commissioning of new EHV Equipment, quick restoration of KM-EHV networks during abnormal situation are the common responsibilities of CS Engineers.

Co-ordinate with GCCIA and NWCC and ensure safe operation of GCCIA grid and WATER Production in Qatar.

Maintain Voltage and Frequency of KAHRAMAA grid as per Grid Code laid down by Kahramaa.

Review KM developed SOM and Safety books and upgrade in timely manner.

Bulk Consumer Orientation training( including QATAR GAS) are my responsibility and successfully given several training to Bulk Consumer new Engineers to assist them for appearing Authorization test in Kahramaa. Training to in-house Qatari Engineer is our common responsibility.

Transmission Senior Engineer-Protection and Sub-station Automation(E&I) KAHRAMAA, QA( 2007 TO 2022)

Started my career with KAHRAMAA Transmission Protection and Automation department from Nov’2007 and continued till June’20. During this tenure, I have worked as a KCT Commissioning Engineer for 13 years. Key responsibilities holding in Electricity transmission department are :-

Cleared Senior Authorization theoretical and practical test from KAHRAMAA Transmission Department in the year 2008 and received SAEP Certificate in the year 2008 and thus, authorized for switching, operation, release, restoration of entire KM Networks from 11KV up to 400KV.

Involved in Annual Maintenance work (ETP) for 1 year.

Worked as a KCT Commissioning Engineer from 2009 to 2022. Commissioned almost 80 nos HV/EHV S/stns duly constructed by EPCs from Phase VII to Phase XIII.

Provided Kahramaa representation at site in monitoring and co-ordinating the site activities of EPC Contractors and sub-contractors for all electrical installations with specific focus on Transmission protection schemes, Sub-station Control system, SCADA, Metering, LVAC, DC systems, UPS, Interlocking scheme for HV equipments and testing, Primary injection tests, Stability tests OCC, SCC tests of Generators, Staggering tests as per Kahramaa procedure.

To participate in AMC Contract with Ministry of Electricity & Water-Kuwait and execute the job as per term and conditions laid down by MEW-Kuwait. Each contract duration was for 03 years and work responsibilities mainly consisted of full maintenance of MEW-EHV S/STSNS.

To Participate in the Tendering process in KNPC (Kuwait National Petroleum Company) and KOC ( Kuwait oil company) for the Sub-Station related projects and Execute the job as per terms and conditions governed by the Oil Companies.

To involve directly in the Cold and Hot Commissioning processes for commissioning of Electrical HV & EHV S/STNS and Power Plant.

To involve in Engineering for retrofitting job. Successfully retrofitted complete Generator protection systems and Line protection systems with ABB REG 316 and REL 521 at ALZour Power Station in Kuwait. 11kv grade live switchgear Units were retrofitted in KNPC-Kuwait.

Participated Tendering to execution process for supply, Engineering, implementation, development of proto-type and execute Automatic and Manual change over scheme in KNPC-Kuwait and successfully executed the work as per terms and conditions laid down by the client.

Attended several training sessions on protection and automation systems both in India and abroad and delivered several lectures on Power protection system at site and customer premises.
