Hiring Manager

I saw your HR Generalist (Confidential – Wilmington, OH – Nov 11 position online. I am interested in being considered for the position. I have extensive (over 30 years) experience in Federal HR positions.

I am a Vietnam Era Veteran and a retired Federal HR employee. Of course, that probably makes me older than what you are looking for. However, I assure you that despite my age, I am a competent, hard-working individual with a strong work ethic. I am a self-starter and have excellent listening, verbal and writing skills. I am not necessarily looking for an “executive level”, I am more interested in obtaining gainful employment in the HR field where I believe my education and experience will be an asset to you.

During my federal career, which began in Civilian Personnel (now HR) at the General Schedule (GS)-5 trainee level, I regularly progressed to a GS-14. My experience included Staffing & Placement, Employee Relations, Leave and Absence,, Workers’ and Unemployment Compensation programs, Performance Management, Labor Relations, EEO, Discipline and Adverse Actions, Discrimination Complaint Investigations. I have served as a Staffing and Employment, Employee & Labor Relations Supervisor, Civilian Personnel Officer (aka HRO), and Chief of the Appellate Examining Division and Regional Director of Investigations and Resolution Division for the Departments of the Air Force and Defense. After I retired, I was a contract investigator approved by the EEOC for approximately four years, conducting investigations in various government agencies and activities. I am also a certified mediator.

I have experience recruiting and hiring blue collar workers, to include aircraft mechanics, aircraft sheet metal workers, instrument mechanics, etc.and white collar, and professional employees to include Pilots, Physicians, Teachers, and all disciplines of Engineers. Although I have executive level, supervisory, and managerial experience, I am not opposed to doing administrative work such as preparing employment documents, filing and maintaining records, etc.

I conducted training to employees, supervisors, and managers on performance management, leave and absences, conduct and discipline, removals, grievances and appeals, etc. I have conducted training to first level, mid-level, and executives of the Departments of the Air Force and Defense on a myriad of HR and EEO subjects and programs at the Air Force activities where I was employed, and at the Air Force Civilian Personnel School. I have conducted briefings to high level Air Force personnel, EEO Officers and counselors at an Army activity, and with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for EEO.

I have also conducted EEO investigations into discrimination, sexual harassment complaints filed by Federal employees, as well as conducting grievance hearings for grievances filed by non-exempt employees. I have represented the agencies I have worked for in Unemployment Compensation and Worker’s Compensation complaints successfully.

As I previously stated, I am very interested in gaining meaningful employment where I can use my experience once again.

Respectfully,

Don E. Wager
