My name is Julie Atencio. Currently, I am an Adjunct Social Work Instructor with Pueblo Community College (PCC). I began my employment with PCC in June 2023 where I am currently assigned to teach SWK 201 Human Behavior in the Social Work Environment I and SWK 202 Human Behavior in the Social Work Environment II. In addition to PCC, I am also an Adjunct Social Work Instructor at Colorado State University - PuebIo (CSUP). I began my employment with CSUP June 2024 where I am currently assigned to teach SWK 502 and SWK 502L Introduction to Social Work Ethics.

2023 August-June 2024, School Social Worker. I participated in IEP meetings reviewing progress providing assessment as to progress in a school environment. Developed IEP goals in regards to social emotional needs for students. Helped to formulate Behavioral Plans for students. Provided therapeutic support for students by coordinating 1:1 sessions as well as group therapy. Completed suicide assessments when needed as well as provided intervention in times of emotional or behavioral crisis.

2023-October to June 2023, Health Professional II. I maintain a case load as to inmates with severe mental health or behavioral problems. I provide ongoing mental health services including crisis service assessment and intervention in regards to management of mental health symptoms with a correctional setting. Provided therapeutic services both individual and group sessions.

2020-October to May 2022, Women’s Residential Unit/STIRT: Counselor Co-occurring Counselor, Men’s Residential Unit as well as the Circle Program. Develop and maintain treatment plans as well as complete mental health assessments that would justify mental health and substance abuse diagnosis as well aid in treatment planning and assessment.

Provide ongoing assessment regarding treatment progress in a residential treatment setting. Ensure all treatment plans are updated on a weekly basis. Conduct all 1:1 sessions with assigned clients. Conduct all group therapy sessions focusing on approved therapeutic substance abuse treatment interventions (CBT, Solution Focused, Client Centered, Relapse Prevention, Informed Trauma Care). Work with case manager and multi disciplinary team to ensure all safety issues are addressed and an effective discharge plan is established prior to client discharge. 2015-January 2019 Continuing Care Department: Case Management Specialist:

(This position has been held for approximately 4 years) By order of the doctor, provided assessments to determine the level of safety issues, physically, cognitively, level of support for patients who are inpatient in the hospital setting to ensure a safe discharge. Coordinate all home services for patients leaving the hospital. Coordinate all placements for patients by working closely with all community nursing homes and assisted living centers. Address all social issues that affect individuals including domestic violence, drug addiction and homelessness helping to advocate for patients by assisting with them accessing community resources. (This position is a full time paid position earning approximately 43 hours per week)

I received ongoing training and maintained weekly supervisory contact. My supervisor was Gail Abeyta the Director of Continuing Care/Case Management Department and currently holds a Masters Degree in Nursing.

● Pueblo County Department of Social Services (Adult Protection and Child Welfare Department) Pueblo, Co.:

2004-2015, Social Caseworker Sr.: (This position was held for approximately 10 years)

Conducts investigations of alleged physical abuse and neglect, determines if the situation warrants placing children out of the home, supervised placement in foster and kinship care and coordinate parent/child visits, and determined when and if to recommend that children return to their home. Develops effective case plans and provided counseling services to families regarding parenting skills, family problems, parent child relationship issues. Provide intake assessment and evaluation and case planning for at-risk adults as well as family conflict and in youth-in-conflict cases. Other duties include testifying in court making recommendations that affect families and child safety as well as preparing all written testimony that would be used during court reviews.

(This position was a full time position earning 40 hours per week) I received ongoing training expected to complete 40 hours of training per year as well as weekly supervisory contact. One of my supervisors was Terri Chemento who held an LCSW with many years experience in the Child Welfare System and counseling.

● Spanish Peaks Mental Health Center, Pueblo, Co.: 1998-2004, Mental Health Worker III/Case Manager: (This position was held for approximately 5 years)

Worked off treatment plans that identified the needs of those who were experiencing chronic psychiatric mental illness, helping clients to improve skills related to coping with mental health issues as well as independent living skills, therefore helping clients to decrease their level of care and increase adult functioning. Helped to decrease client psychiatric crisis by providing support, resources, skills and clinical intervention. Identified mental health symptoms that clients were currently experiencing, assisted clients with identifying coping mechanisms and assisted clients in understanding symptoms related to their illness. Provided individual and group therapy, completed intake assessments and various case management duties, including clinical assessments. (This position was a full time paid position earning 40 hours per week) I received ongoing training and specialized training related to clinical assessments as well as weekly supervisory contact. My supervisor, Dr. Stephen Dixon was the Director of Crisis Services and held a Doctoral Degree in Philosophy.

● YWCA Family Crisis Shelter, Pueblo, Co.:

1995-1998, Victim Assistance Technician: (This position was held for approximately 3 years)

Worked in a domestic violence/homeless shelter with those who were experiencing domestic violence as well as the socioeconomic effects of being homeless. Helped to assist residents (women and children) with accessing community resources, completed intake assessments, assessed for safety by answering the domestic violence crisis line as well as provided support to callers. Performed other duties consistent with case management. (This was a paid position earning approximately 20 hours per week) I received training as well as regular supervisory contact. My supervisor was Randy Brown who held a Master’s Degree in counseling and had many years of experience working in the domestic violence field. EDUCATION:

The above internships include working with the elderly and disabled populations, as well as the mentally ill, who are currently in the long term care and rehabilitation setting. My duties included identifying the needs of the individual as well as completing psychosocial assessments, developmenting treatment plans that meet the needs of the individual as well as ensuring the delivery of services occurred, therefore increasing support as well as level of psychosocial and or physical functioning. I was able to increase my clinical and case management skills as well as my ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

● Master’s Degree level of internships included completion of a total of approximately 900 hours at the 500 and 600 level: Student internships were completed with the Colorado Department of Corrections/San Carlos Correctional Facility and the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center.

The above internships included increasing my clinical skills in regards to assessment and crisis intervention in a correctional setting, completing clinical groups and assisted with program development. While at the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center I was able to also assist with program development, work with a multidisciplinary team in regards to child maltreatment investigations as well as increase my Social Work skills at the Macro level and community system coordination regarding delivery of services. ● Temporary Educator Eligibility Authorization, expired, will be renewed soon

● I am currently in the process of completing LCSW Licensing requirements including my clinical exam and have completed all licensing hours, under the supervision of an LCSW. My ASWB test is scheduled.

● I currently hold a three year Substitute License and am currently employed with Pueblo School District 60, working primarily at the Middle and High School level.

● I attended Colorado School for Family Therapy, 2020, completed all required License Addiction Counseling (LAC) Core Classes completed Principles of Addiction, Infection Disease in Addiction Treatment, Pharmacology i and II, Professional Ethics II, Advanced Motivational Interviewing, Clinical Supervision I and II, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have completed all supervision hours related to the LAC and am awaiting completion of my MAC test required for the LAC. My MAC test is scheduled.
