Certifications-Skills
Registered {Per Recovery Specialist – licensed from, 2018-present
Full understudying of both medical and prescription coverage requirements of Medicare, VA Medicaid, and multiple third-party payor’s requirements, including prescription’s prior authorizations.
I interact with patients in over a one-hundred-mile radius from my office, requiring me to carefully understand both federal, but also state, and differing local statutes and codes that patients use to re-engage with many services. My management strategy teaches patients the self-care skills to stay well, not only physically, but also spiritually and mentally. I have several certifications that provide me the knowledge, an experience to assist dis-engaged with their providers and insurers. However, my true abilities are gleaned from a personal understanding of growing up in this area, experiencing poverty in the past, both and child and adult, and understanding how that powerlessness steers members away from preventive health care.
Personal History
I have a comprehensive understanding of the Virginia Medicaid program, because I am the product of this very system that members are currently navigating. Learning to navigate this system has afforded me opportunities, which I can pass on to others. Although I realize that this information is unconventional to divulge in a resume, I feel it is necessary to explain that as a childhood product of the system, I very much understand the concerns of members who access Medicaid. My current position allows me to interact with patients in over a one hundred-mile radius from my office, requiring me to carefully understand (and be correct), about both federal and state, but also local statutes and codes through which patients can re-engage with health care services. When I manage patients correctly, our interactions teach them the self-care skills to stay well, not only physically, but also spiritually and mentally, and I, in turn, receive encouragement to continue their health care seeking behaviors. I possess both an insider’s experience of the system – I grew up in the Virginia foster system as well, and thus can explain well to patients how to navigate the appropriate loopholes that would otherwise be overwhelming.
