Deputy Project Manager, High Risk Equipment, Bechtel Jacobs Co. Aug 2007 – June 2009

Served as Deputy Project Manager for the High Risk Equipment removal portion of DOE’s $1.4B K-25/K-27 D&D project including managing a $129 million budget and leading a team of more than 180 professionals. Work involved Nuclear Safety Basis level controls.

Promoted to manage multiple projects for a joint venture at DOE’s ETTP between Bechtel and Jacobs Engineering with combined budgets of $272 million and a team of more than 100 employees. Oversaw demolition support, surveillance and maintenance, national historical preservation, and auxiliary facilities demolition. Cost Account Manager supporting EVMS on multiple WBS elements.

Six Sigma Black Belt, Bechtel National Corporation April 2001 – Oct 2004

Selected by Bechtel senior leadership to step out of Project Management for a three year project to become a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Overarching goal was to implement Six Sigma methodologies into multiple projects including the $410 million Aberdeen Chemical Weapons Destruction Project, Bechtel’s Oak Ridge DOE projects, the $5.3 billion Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass Chemical Weapons Destruction Project, Bechtel internal functions, and completed a one year assignment at the DOE Idaho National Laboratory.

Promoted to Project Manager to manage the $580 million Department of Energy (DOE) Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) which included 46 sites in 14 states and management of more than 150 employees and hundreds of subcontract employees. Sites were associated with the Manhattan Project and the early days of AEC. Oversaw the Congressionally mandated transfer of project sponsorship from a centrally managed DOE office to decentralized U.S. Army Corps of Engineers districts.

Rotated to Project Controls for a management development assignment. Managed the integrated cost and schedule (EVMS) for the $300 million Navy South Division RAC project and the $100 million Reynolds Metals project, an aluminum smelter plant on the Canadian border that contaminated the St Lawrence River.

Selected for a high profile rotational management development role reporting to the PVP; received one-on-one coaching and mentoring from a company leader. Served as Executive Assistant to the Defense, Space, and Environmental Projects Operations Manager & GM for Bechtel’s Oak Ridge Office. Hired to design characterization and remediation plans and to oversee field work for the New Jersey & Opportunity Sites Team on the DOE FUSRAP which included 9 sites in 5 states. Project goal was to manage and clean up environmental contamination that resulted from Manhattan Project and early U.S. Atomic Energy Commission activities. Completed post-remedial action reports and other documentation to de-list sites from the National Priorities List (NPL).
