Dear Hiring Manager
Your need for an experienced controls/designer/electrical engineer is an excellent match to my background and career goals. With 20+ years of progressively responsible experience, I am confident I can make an immediate contribution given the opportunity. Highlights of my qualifications most relevant to your needs include and although the experience may not be directly tied to a specific area, most automation and controls applies to many different areas in industry regardless of whether it is a rocket engine or food procession machine.
When tasked to design and build 22 robot systems for Universal, I was presented with a preliminary design for the prototype robot. Since we needed 22 different designs for robots, I found commonality and streamlined the documents for easy build, troubleshooting, and maintenance. I accomplished the task with saving time and money to get the product built. The robots were tested with minor issues. When tasked to troubleshoot a few issues, it became very easy to find and fix problems. Mostly it was due to improper construction or a component that gave unexpected results that differed from the datasheets.
When I was challenged to update the entire ride control system for the iconic Splash Mountain in Walt Disney World, I created about 300 schematics from old controls. This allowed me to eliminate errors and simplify hookup methods. Based on schematics I created a new cabinet and conducted the logic check on coding. Thanks to my efforts, downtime was greatly reduced, and the system's replacement was deemed quite easy by colleagues.
Likewise, working on the controls for braking system for Safari Vehicles at Animal Kingdom, I identified components that could be reduced to increase efficiency, going down from 4 to 1. Then, I had to justify my recommendation to the lead engineer, who agreed 100%. As a result, the replacement time for brakes fell, needed components were reduced, and component failures as well.
Working as a Controls Engineer at High-Mark, I was tasked with developing the Barcode Interface System for the company. For this, I designed the PLC, ladderlogic, and cabinets to interface with barcode readers and cameras. This system was so robust that it is still a mainstay at High-Mark, enduring 12+ years of use and bringing great value to the company. HighMark makes quality inspection machines mostly for the food processing industry.
At International Electric Corporation, to interface to high-voltage SCR failure detection, I used optoisolators to separate the high voltage from the logic board. This allowed the company to detect thousands of critical failures, which projections show has saved the company millions of dollars. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my background with you in detail and to learn more about your company and its goals. My résumé is attached and offers additional information about my specific achievements. Feel free to reach me at **********@*****.*** or 713-***-****. I look forward to our conversation.
Sincerely,
David Erdmann
