PERSONAL OBJECTIVES
My objective is to obtain a challenging managerial position that will utilize my engineering and computer-aided design skills. This new opportunity will enable me to leverage my educational background and leadership experiences effectively.
EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
11/2008 – 01/2023
BAE Systems, Inc. – Sterling Heights, Michigan
Engineering Structures
- Participated in the surveillance and correct implementation of company-wide design, engineering, and manufacturing practices following various ASME and industry standards. This involved the proper incorporation of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), dimensional management, and ensuring close adherence to industry and corporate design practices.
- Managed engineering designs by reviewing, marking up, and overseeing 2D and 3D data using the Pro/Engineer CREO and EPDM data management system.
- Served as the primary point of contact for many of the company’s platforms, collaborating with Project Managers, IPT Leads, and Engineers to develop project schedules for the checking group to meet both internal and external customer requirements.
- Mentored designers and engineers on best practices for designing our components and drawings using the CREO CAD software.
- Coordinated a daily tracking report on the progress of design items and presented it to the PEMs, IPT Leads, engineers, and other engineering management as needed.
- Acted as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in ADCN creation, Pro/Engineer design methodologies, and EPDM file management procedures.
06/2007 – 10/2008
Carrier – Charlotte, North Carolina
Lead CAD Designer
In addition to my design responsibilities, I was tasked with acquiring designers and facilitating the workload for our design groups in Syracuse, NY, India, and China, managing a team of nine designers worldwide. My responsibilities included:
- Leading the design, development, and data management of 2D and 3D water-cooled and air-cooled chiller assemblies and components using the Pro/Engineer (Wildfire 2.0 & Pro/Intralink 3.3) CAD system.
- Collaborating with Project Managers and Engineers to develop project schedules for all designers, allowing me to approve work schedules and overtime.
- Coordinating design process training and travel schedules for all offshore design group employees.
- Collecting weekly progress reports from the entire design group and processing that information for presentation at weekly meetings with upper management.
09/2000 – 05/2007
Siemens VDO Automotive - Auburn Hills, Michigan
Senior CAD Designer
In this role, I served as the primary contact for all design support within the fuel systems group. My responsibilities included:
- Designing and developing fuel assembly components and assemblies (in both plastic and metal) as well as creating the corresponding drawings using Pro/Engineer (Wildfire 2.0).
- Creating component and assembly drawings.
- Managing data for models and drawings using the Pro/Engineer (Wildfire 2.0) CAD system and Pro/Intralink data management system (version 3.4).
- Meeting with customers and suppliers to provide design support for various programs.
- Conducting research and development of new system components.
- Performing design-to-cost studies on various components to identify cost savings through improved designs.
- Procuring SLA components and interfacing with mold designers during the prototype and production design phases.
- Developing a “how-to” guide for best design and modeling practices using Pro/Engineer.
- Mentoring designers and engineers both locally and in Mexico.
- Received training in GD&T, stack-ups, project management, and DFMEA.
09/1997 – 09/2000
Saturn Electronics & Engineering – Auburn Hills, Michigan
CAD Engineer
In this capacity, I led the design and development of junction boxes, electrical connectors, and terminals, including creating detailed drawings. My responsibilities also included managing data and systems through Pro/Intralink. I trained fellow designers on how to use the Pro/Engineer (Revision 2000I ) CAD system. A highlight of my experience at Saturn was designing the battery case for a self-balancing wheelchair and personal scooter. I received training in GD&T based on ASME Y14.5M-1994 and plastic snap-feature design.
08/1996 – 09/1997
GKN Automotive – Auburn Hills, Michigan
Lead CAD Designer
Initially hired at GKN as a direct employee after working as a contract employee from Aerotek (1994-1995), my primary responsibility was to translate components and assemblies of front-wheel-drive half-shaft assemblies for all Chrysler/Jeep projects from a different CAD system using Pro/Engineer (Revision 18). I also mentored and assisted other designers as needed. Additionally, I developed new standards and modeling practices that improved design and detailing processes by 70% using Pro/Programming, UDFs (User Defined Features), and Engineering Notebook. I trained other designers in Pro/Engineer and various design processes. Furthermore, I received training in SDRC I-DEAS.
